gday , i got my sub put in today , it was my bros 600w kenwood , i got it professionally installed an all , after an hour or so , i turned it up then it shit itself, i could smell somthin burnin an it was just makin a vibrating noise.
i wanted to no if this is because i might have turned it up to much or if its just because it hasnt been on for bout 3 years an may hav deteriarated. i just dont want to rush out ann buy another to find the same thing happen. any advice will be much appreciated thx
there could be many reasons why it "died" how big is your amp? how much use has the sub had previously? you gotta remember a sub has moving parts so eventually they wear out. my guess is you probably pushed it a little too hard, next time id get a NEW sub ( subs are not thast expensive) and go for something with a little more RMS (depending on your amp output)
How high are your gains set, how much bass boost are you applying, and how high did you turn that volume knob? What amplifier was it? What kind of box was it in?
I'm just hunting some posibilities.

its a sansui amp , just a normal carpeted box from stathfield lol ,the bass was set high on the head unit , but the volume wasnt up terribly high
thats what the forum is all about mate, people helpin people ( sometimes i wonder lol) maybe when you get a chance, post some pics of the amp and pics of its settings. might give us a bit better idea of what your running.
haha yeaa thx dvsv8 , il try take some pics tomoz an get em up , thx for ya help
soo do u recomend getting another sub or is it just gunna blow again??
When you say professionally installed do you mean the sub or the amp? Hooking a sub up takes literally 5 minutes max. Did the installer set the correct settings on the amp, and did you modify these settings afterwards? Not having a go or anything just trying to find out why it fried.
Did the sub play any bass or did it just shit itself straight away?

There is one reason for a sub "blowing up" and it's because it was turned up too much. It doesn't matter what the settings are on, the volume knob still gets turned too far before those settings cause any problems.
Read this: Amplifier Gain and Crossover Adjustment
Then go get a new sub and set up your amp properly. If it blows again, it's because you like listening to distortion.
im on the central coast, an i got a new sub it was only 100 ,1000w xplod
Just make sure the gains and the crossover frequency are set properly on the amp. Use the link that StoneX put up. Also make sure the H/U bass level is set to zero and you don't have bass boost 'on' on the amp.
