    Default Headphones

Wrong section, i know, but it' audio related..
I have been given $600 to spend on a pair of headphones,by an insurance company, but i'm willing to throw in a little more.

Does anyone know or reccomend any good sets? I don't know a whole lot about headphones, but i have been doing a bit of researching. SO far i have come up with
    AKG 701
    Sennheiser HD650
    Sony MDRSA3000
Also i've noticed with DJ style had phones, they have a higher power handling, but less frequency response. Does that mean they will play loud, and sound crap?

I'm mainly after volume, and bass, something that will really tear my ears of the side of my head They will be used through a head phone amp, and mainly with my computer...
    Any help, greatly appreciated..

$600+ on some headphone, holy crap thats a lot. My $50 seem very trivial compared to that. I just use mine for games and por......recreational stuff, and works fine for me.

Haha, headphones can range in excess of several thousands of dollars! But i spend many hours on the computer, listening, and editing music files, and i need a good set.

damn $600 on a pair of headphones! I spent 170 or so on my senny hd555s and I love em. Only problem is I need to build an amp for them, with a bit of power behind them they sound infinitely better.

Don't go for DJ monitors, they're designed to have as flat a frequency response as possible, not specifically to sound good. I've used sennheiser hd25s and technics monitors that my DJ mates swear by, and I think the sound quality out of them is average at best.

Hey bezz, i've actually heard the 555's, and i found they lacked a lot when it came to the higher frequencies. I'm actually looking now at the Poineer HDJ2000's, they'll take 3500mw, and have a frequecny response on par with those from Senn. and AKG in their top line Audiophile head phones. I've read heaps of reviews on them, and everyone loved them, and said just to look past the brand, and you won't look back. I know what your saying about DJ monitors, maybe my ears can't pick the difference in quality, because i listened to a $799 set of AKG's, and i wasn't imressed, i didn't like the way they sounded at all.

True the 555s do have a bit of a subdued high end however the detail they offer I've been really happy with. Granted when I bought them I stuck to a $200 limit, and forced myself not to listen to any that were more expensive than that!

Bit of a late reply, but I'm happy with my Bose on ear headphones for around $200. Excellent bass response too.
