Interchanging original head decks

Was wondering in anyone new wether or not any of the later model commodore's head decks would fit in place of the one in my vu. Just wanna play CDs and still use my steering wheel controls iPod dock would be a bonus.

As the VU uses the same unit as the VT-VX only those models will be compatible (with security code). The later models, such as VY-VZ will not work or fit in the VU, they are larger and also a different brand (Eurovox in the VT-VU, Blaupunkt in the VY-VZ).

Why not look into getting your current head-unit modified to have an aux input?

You do realise that not even the VE's have an iPod dock? Assuming by dock you mean the dock connector to play and recharge, you will need an aftermarket headunit (Alpine, Eclipse, JVC, Pioneer etc).

just buy a new unit with ipod adaptor, they are getting cheaper these days and the benifits easily outway any negatives, steering wheel adaptors are available so you can keep the original controls. a good head unit will charge your ipod and alow you to control it though the unit without the need to touch the ipod at all...
