Default HELP Please! What subs should i go with??

Hi guys. I need some help with choosing between these two subs. I am looking at getting 2slimline subs and i have narrowed it down to either the Kicker 12" CVT or the Cadence CSB-124 12" subwoofer.

    Now here is the scenario-

I am looking at getting them from my local JB Hi-Fi. The kicker subs are $279 each with no enclosure but i got quoted $700 for 2 with enclosure. The cadence subs are on sale for $199 each with enclosure, So i can get 2 subs and 2 enclosures for $398. Both the subs have the same power (400rms). I THINK that the kickers are a bit better but are they worth the extra $300?

Let me know what you think!

    Cheers!

are the enclosures that are being offered with the subs the right size for each one... or are they just off the shelf crap that isnt really made for the sub. because from what I understand, just because one sub is better than the other (or more expensive than the other) doesnt mean its going to sound better (especially if the enclosure is perfect for the cheap one, but terrible for the expensive one).

maybe go to the websites and get the specs for each sub and its best size/type of enclosure rec. then, check the size of whats being offered.

two seperate subs will allow for better install options for positioning, utilizing space better, phasing waves (now im just pulling shit out of my arse!), but then again from what little I know, kicker has a pretty good rep for subs! All things being equal (and you can afford it), I'd go kicker!

Well the cadence sub enclosure is made for that sub, like its a cadence made box. It comes with a sub and box so i'm just gonna get two if i go with that option. But i think the kicker subs would just come with a box off the shelf.

I cant understand how a place like JB, which has such limited stock, a lack of brands, and almost no clue when it comes to car audio, can get so much interest from people.I'm thinking of starting a thread, which contains a list of where people usually, or prefer to buy their gear from. A list from online shops, to local stores, to give people who are new, an idea of some other places they can look, where they might be able to pick up a better product, for a better price, and include some personal reviews where components have actually been put to the test..

Yeah i want slimline cause im converting my car to gas and i wanna keep boot space.

HoldenCommodoreVP- Mate i would really appreciate it if you could give me some good online car audio shops or decent places. The only reason why i go to JB or similar shops is because i wouldn't have a clue where else i could get my audio gear from.

Ok, well my first question, before i can offer you any advice, is if your space is limited, then why do you want 2 subs?

Cause two subs will fit across my boot and cover the gas tank well

Yeah mate i have seen that one. With the CVT's it wouldn't be that much cheaper when you consider postage.

So are you saying that you want to cover the gas tank, so you can't see it? As far as space saving goes, i'd have to reccomend a single sub rather than two.If even space wasn't an issue, i'd still be going for a sinlge sub.Don't think you'll lose any performance from only having one, i can show you plenty of sub's within the price range that you have mentioned, that just on their own, will outperform those one's your currently considering. Also, do they have to a 12'' unit, does a 12''suit your listening styles?

Also, just my opinion, but slimline, subs, are pretty much pointless, especially in a boot setup, as to get the purpose of the sub being slim, by using a smaller enclosure, your generally limiting it's output by doing so...

you'd get better bass out of a single GOOD sub rather than dual slimlines. singles aren't loud = myth. for $700 you could get a 12" type-r that would rape the absolute shit out of cvts.

cover the gas tank with the boot carpet. here's a couple of ideas for a setup (from my 2 cars):

Yep i want to cover it so you can't see the tank. Yeah 12" suits my style i like to listen to a bit of everything. The thing is with a single sub i don't really want to upgrade my amp cause i don't have that much cash to spend. I have a 1000watt kenwood monoblock 500wrms @ 2 ohms or 300wrms @ 4 ohms.

Can i get a single sub with dual voice coils so i can run both negative and both positive wires to the one sub?

well, that amp won't run 2 subs, well it will, but not very well. Your best bet if you must use that amp, is a dual 4 ohm sub. I'd suggest a ported enclusre aswell, as that would give you a bit more efficieny

Can you recommend any dual 4ohm subs that would be better than two slimline subs? In my price range

Thanks levymetal they are some good setups there!

alpine type-r's come in dual 4ohm. i would think it would be less than $700, i think the rrp on those things are $500 unboxed and jb will always go down on their price, and a box isn't much.

joe bellissimo might also have an even better sub for you so you should pm him and see what he's got to offer

RRP on they type R's is $350, you could find them a bit cheaper, and yep, that's the one levy was reffering to..
There are a lot of dual 4 ohm's 12's to choose from, problem being though, is your input power. Like i said, a ported enclosure will give you a little more volume, while at the time time being more effecient. But don't be expected to be blown away by 5ooRMS in a Commodore, maybe in a barina lol. Really though, i'd suggest spending the very most you can on a single sub, building your own box, and then at a later date, when you can afford to upgrade your amp...spending $700 on a single sub, is where things begin to get interesting

So for now do you think i should just go with the type-r i don't wanna spend over $400 for now? Would it out perform 2 cvt's? Also i can upgrade my amp to power it well in a couple of weeks when i work up some cash lol

The Type R in a ported enclosure, with 5ooRMS, will definately outperform the 2 cvt's. I'm guessing the cvt's are around 3-400RMS each?? Your amp will be under powering them, meaning they aren't going to perform very well. There's no point in under powering anything, plus, if your don't know what your doing you can actually cause damage to your sub.

    levymetal, your support is appreciated

VIBE - Space CBR12 Enclosure --> $599 for sub and box, check dimensions and let me know if it will fit into the space you desire. 1000RMS so ready for an amplifier upgrade down the track. Ported for efficiency with the option to seal to suite your musical tastes. This thing tears apart most other subs for both sound quality and for sheer output... its an engineering masterpiece.

This is my Type R killer. Sweet sounding subwoofer, great for sound quality with 550rms on tap. If you want something like that I will match any price you could possibly get a new Type R for.

Thats 2 options. What do you think?

And the best place to get audio online is www.shoppingsecure.com.au, if I didn't think so, I wouldn't be running it

Build quality and sound quality ofcourse, VIBE products are a top shelf item and I have recieved nothing but praises when it comes to the quality of the VIBE BlackAir. Overall output I don't expect to be dramatically different if you use the same box and amplifier, it will only use what you feed it.

$329? No problem! What are they charging you to ship it?
