Will this be enough to power my sub?

Hey guys, just a quick question. I don't know alot about car audio but I'll try and do my best to describe.

I am looking at getting a 400 rms Cadence Slimline sub for my ute. I am looking at an amp that is also a Cadence 1000 watts. I was just wondering would that amp be enough to power the just the sub?

If I miss something out I'm terribly sorry, I really know sweet f all about electrical side of things lol.

Alrighty.....just going off what youve written i would say that will be fine. If you could provide model numbers for the gear that'd be great and i could give you more of a definate answer.

Im guessing that the 1000 Watts for the amp is peak, RMS is probably only 300 or so anyways.

The amp in there. Doesn't have model numbers or anything that I could see and I couldn't find the sub, but I am pretty sure its very similar to the one above and has same watts etc.

there is an error in that listing. that is a 4 channel amp, not a 2 channel. 4 channel amps are not suited to powering subs, and to make things worse, it doesn't look like you can bridge all 4 channels. the best you can do is:
Bridged Power: 2 x 250 Watts @ 4 ohm RMS Mono

i would suggest finding a new amplifier

It looks to me like you can bridge all 4 channels:

80wrms x 4 @ 4ohm
250wrms x 2 @ 4 ohm


So that means it'll deliver 250wrms per channel when bridged....yes, its a 4 channel amp, but provided the sub is 4 ohm dual voice coil it'll be giving it 500wrms (250 to each coil) it will power the sub fine.
Where you might run into problem is if the sub is not DVC or is 2 ohm DVC.
Although if you can pick up a monoblock with 400wrms at the right impedance (be it 4 ohm or 2 ohm) then you'd be better off with that, monoblocks generally use class D designs which pulls less power from your battery when compared to class A/B amps (like this 4 ch amp)


If you can find specs on the sub, that will be the deciding factor.

Yeah i would imagine it just has a single voice coil, this means you will only be able to give it 250wrms from one pair of bridged outputs from that 4ch amplifier. So yeah, it'll power the sub ok.....but you wont get the full potential from the sub. If youre not after a whole heap of bass (its in a ute, so you only have a smallish cabin area - means its easier to get loud!), then this should work out OK.
Do you have aftermarket speakers in the doors too? If so then you could use the other two channels to power them, which will make them play alot louder and clearer.

Oh yeah, by the sounds of it get the gear installed by a proffesional....saves alot of headaches and possible blown components if you dont know what youre doing!
