any ideas on a setup 4 my car i used 2 have 10inc sub in my boot but had 2 take it because i got the gas on it so was wondering if there any gud shops around melbourne and how much would i be looking out 4 a decent sound system
What exactly are you after? You can still have subs, even though you have a gas tank. Your going to be have a lot more specific, such as your budget, your overall goal/expectations, as far as the setup is concerned. What will it be aimed at, overall volume, sound quality, SPL ect, what is the main type of music you listen to? Do you plan on using the factory head unit, or will your budget include an aftermarket unit? Will be installing the gear yourself, or will you have to get it done? The list goes on, begin to answer some of those questions, and only then can we begin to help you.
I would like to offer my services to you. I'm the owner of Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists and I would be more than happy to provide you with some hardware. If you need something installed I can also provide you with some of the contacts of installers who I'm using to install the gear I sell online.

What is your budget? A "gud" system can cost anywhere from $600 to $5000+.

im looking around the $1000 mark maybe little bit more if i need to im going have to get someone put it in because when they put the gas system in they cut the 6guage cable so they need 2 put another one though and theres alot of old speaker wire in the old setup and i wouldnt have a clue where 2 start ive got a old pioneer cd deck maybe update so i plug the ipod in
Not sure on good places to buy / install the gear, but you should be looking at:
Ipod compatible head-unit, $150-$200...heres a couple of examples:
Ryda Car Audio - Kenwood KDC-MP443U Car CD & USB Tuner($188.85)
Ryda Car Audio - Pioneer DEH-2100IB Car CD MP3 Tuner Ipod($194.85)
Front speakers, $150-$200:
Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists - SPL Dynamics SD-6.2
Ryda Car Audio - JBL GT5-650C 6.5" Component Speaker($134.85)
Ryda Car Audio - Kenwood CVar Audio KFC-P605IE 6" Splits($168.85)
Rear speakers, in your situation...with a gas tank in the boot i would go with a decent set of 6x9s in the parcel shelf running off an amp....either that or surrender most of whats left of your boot space for a sub.
Heres some 6x9s worth considering - $100-$150
Ryda Car Audio - Kenwood Car Audio KFC-M6942A Car Speakers($108.85)
Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists - SPL Dynamics TD-6903
Ryda Car Audio - Soundstream PCS6.9 Picasso - 6x9" Speakers($143.85)
Then an amp to power them, $200-$300:
Ryda Car Audio - Kenwood Car Audio KAC-6203 Car Amplifier($168.85)
Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists - Option Audio OAA160
Ryda Car Audio - Clarion Car Audio APX2181 Car Amplifier($221.05)
But if you want to go a sub, then heres a few examples, $200-$300 inc. box:
Ryda Car Audio -JBL GT5-12 12" Subwoofer In Bass Reflex Box($253.25)
Ryda Car Audio - Kenwood KFC-W3514DVC 12" Subwoofer In Box($208.85)
Ryda Car Audio - Kicker VCVR124 12" Enclosure with Sub($304.70)
Then a smallish 2ch. or monoblock to power the sub, any of the amps i suggested above will work fine, but heres a couple of monoblocks that are more suited to powering a subwoofer, $200-$250:
Ryda Car Audio - Kenwood Car Audio KAC-8104D Car Amplifier($208.85)
Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists - Option Audio OAX502
Ryda Car Audio - Clarion Car Audio APX1301 Car Amplifier($172.20)
So, if you go with a set of 6x9s and amp to run them....basically you'll get an overall louder musical system with a little bit of bass, that will set you back between $600 and $850 depending on the products you choose, installation would be somewhere in between $250-$350 including new wiring etc.
If you go with a sub, you'll need to fork out abit extra for some rear fill speakers (nothing fancy, somewhere around $50-$80 is fine), but you will get more bass when compared to 6x9s. The downside is it'll be more expensive and you'll loose a fair amount of your boot space. Although the sound in general will be better staged (the majority of the sound will come from in front of you).
For the system including a sub, youre looking at $700-$1000 again depending on chosen products etc. Installation should be around the same - $250-$350 inc. wiring. (assuming you get new rear speakers too).
Is that the info you were looking for?![]()
