Hi Everyone.
I am wanting to connect my Uniden Scanner UBC93XLT into my VY Factory head unit somehow.
Basically so I can be say listening to cd / radio and when a transmission comes through it mutes radio / cd and transmission comes through from scanner.
I found this link on another forum with basically what I am wanting to do.
Uhf Radio Thru Car Stereo. - Boostcruising.com
Don't think he has tried it yet so don't know wether it will work or not.
Could I use Mobile phone inputs maybe???
Any thoughts on it and any other suggestions.

You could always use the voice in with rf input timer delay.. To me it all seems a little out there

use the mute control that you use when hooking up the mobile connection. it would work although as it is uhf there can be alot of static and you could be hearing alot of uhf . i think your better off hooking up the single speaker under the seat.

I had some time today to try a few things
This is how I have connected it up so far.
The UHF works well like this and I can use steering wheel controls to control the volume / Bass / Treble of the UHF coming through car stero and I can mute it as well. Problem is by wiring the mute wire directely to the body(Earth) it Mutes the radio / cd until you disconnect this wire.
I'm wondering if it is possible to wire in a relay to automatically Mute it when there is a transmission. Don't know what sort of relay I would need and how it would be wired. Anyone with a bit of electronics expertise should be able to help me with this??

Its possible to use a relay to switch when theres a transmission......its going to be failry complicated i think.
When there is a transmission, does the scanner light up or anything change as far as the scanner goes? Im thinking if the display backlight comes on then you could tap into that and use it to turn the relay on (if the voltage is high enough). Check the voltages coming out of the scanner's 3.5mm jack, does it go up when theres a transmission? This could also be a possibility.
I dont know, never done anything like this before.....so im sorta in the dark on this. Maybe send Phreddy a message and see if he has any ideas on the subject, you never know
EDIT: Maybe something along the lines of a line out converter with signal sensing, it has a remote output wire so once the LOC senses a signal from the speaker wiring (in your case scanner) it has a wire that produces 12v thats designed to turn the amp on. You could use this turn-on wire to trigger a relay and connect the earth to the phone connector. This ofcourse relies on the scanner producing a signal only when there is a transmission.

This looks like it could be a very easy way to hook up an aux input for the stereo just put a switch on that mute signal wire and away u go

Not recommended as the input has a restricted wave length so in turn crap sounding music..

I've thought about this as well. But it'll be a pain in the ass cutting in and out all the time. Better to have an external speaker and just mute when you hear something you want to listen to. I have an in car UHF CB/Scanner combo and it just scans between 29 and 40 as thats all I listen to now days. Most organisations run off trunked systems and its a pain as you only get a part of a message before some other organisation uses the same frequency.

You can get a lot farther with a kind word and a gun than a kind word alone
So i discovered 2day that u can run an AUX input via the mobile socket but its shit and a waste of time. oh well was worth a try

Nothing ventured, Nothing gained! At least now you know how crap that input is.
