Default anyone familiar with Mach 5 audio?

I came across this site the other night.Subwoofers Car/Home Theatre, Affordable Drivers Mach 5 Audio I've been reading through some of the forums, and i've come accross a few video clips aswell, where their drivers have been used.

Is anyone here familiar with this company, and their drivers? I'm looking at the IXL 12...Mach 5 Audio IXL 12 subwoofer Subwoofer - Mach 5 Audio IXL-12 [IXL-12.2.2] - $249.00 : Subwoofers Car/Home Theatre, Affordable Drivers Mach 5 Audio i contacted them to find out if the claimed 1000 watt RMS was true or not, and they have assured me it is, however i'm still a little skeptical..

Yeah, a few of the guys on MEA have used these woofers with great success.....the only real problem with them is the box size needs to be abit larger than normal, if you havent already seen this thread, here you go (build and sub pics from page 3):

I'm just finding it hard to beleive, that for that money, it will take 1kwrms. I wouldn't want to get it home, give it 1kw, and watch the cone peice fly across to the other side of the room!

Haha, i dont think that will happen....apparently they are popular in the US for home theatre subs, RAD was one of the first in Australia (if not the first) to try it in a car audio application.....i assume thats what you wanted it for (car audio)?

Well first i noticed its power handling is 1000wrms, but i gotta love the marketing "High quality, ultra-low distortion, long-throw 12" subwoofer suitable for home and car audio" Then it states it can be wired to 4ohm or 1 ohm which is where it will use all the 1000wrms it needs and produce a lot of distorted bass due to its over sized rubber surround and its oversized triple stack. As well as it being a rather inefficient woofer most of the electrical power will be wasted as heat in the voice coil like all speakers but this cheap and nasty no namer will struggle to convert 1000 wrms of electrical energy into 100wrms of acoustical energy that you will hear....

Actually home audio, in my computer room, music duties only, won't see any HT use....you won't see me doing too much in the way of car audio for a while, not until i have a suitable car anyway..incase you havent noticed, i'm currently driving around in a Ford Econovan..(seriously)

It was costing me too much to run, petrol, maintanence ect.

I'm going to get a new car some time this year, something small, like a Hyundai Getz, when i do i will look at a complete install

Yeah i know, i'm tired of installing stereo sytems into these big cars, when i know if i took it all out, and put it into a smaller car, how much i would gain. The Getz looks like a good choice, its cheap to buy, cheap to run, and cheap to service. I don't need anything fancy, i just want something that goes form A to B, reliably, and dosen't cost me money all the time.

I'm over going fast, fast cars and all that, these day's i prefer to just cruise around without drawing attention to myself, whilst enjoying my music

lol....you know theres plenty of room in a Econovan too............

I actually want a CRX, small car, factory 2 seater....heaps of room behind the seats for a box / amps / batteries etc etc = LOUD

Anyways, i reckon you should get one of those IXLs, build a large (2.5-3 cube) box for it, fire the sub downwards (towards the ground) and have a rear mounted 4" port, as long as you can make it....feed it 1000wrms and watch stuff move around, lol.

Rear mounted port would be difficult, if i wanted it pushed up into a corner. My original plan, was for a pentaganol enclosure, with twin slot ports so it fits snug into the corner, and fires directionaly toward me, rather that down either side of the room.I think i'll buy one, and give it a run, once i've finished off my other enclosures..

With home audio, it is my understanding the woofer and port needs to be firing against something, sort of like loading subs / ports off a tailgate.

But anyway, give it a go and post back your results
