I just thought I would post and find out some opinions on the level of service that Jaycar Electronics provide in Australia.
I am building a system at the moment and due to other suppliers being out of stock, found Jaycar Electronics as a supplier of 0 Gauge OFC power cable and placed an online order at their exhorbitant prices.
When I checked out on Sunday evening, i was offered next business day delivery for extra money which I opted for. Based on their own delivery information, I was expecting my order today (tuesday).
I phoned them today to check that status of my order and spoke with a guy called Michael who I have to say is the most obnoxious arrogant pr1ck I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with.
Firstly I asked him whether I could check my order status online to which he scoffed then mumbled "nah cant do that" as if I am some kind of moron. I then asked if he could search my order by postcode or name which he did.
He told me the order was held up and that they had been working 24/7 to despatch all orders so I can expect my order by the end of the week....IE 5 working days.
I said the words "hang on are you telling me..." at which point he interupted me and starts shouting me down on the phone "I am saying what I am saying...etc etc".....then he refused to shut up and released a tirade of crap in my direction telling me that their next day service means next day after they invoice the order it so really doesnt mean next day at all. I cannot believe this guy works in customer service FFS.
So, based on this, it seems I have paid for a service which Jaycar know they cannot provide. I am pretty sure that this is in breach of trades descriptions and to add to this they put an a55hole like Michael on the phones to fend off the obviously disgruntled customers.
Really interested to hear anyone elses experiences with them. Needless to say this will be the one and only time they get an order from me.
Call this customer service?
I wanted some of the response gear that they are getting rid of, but the Springvale shop I went to only had 1 left yesterday. He rang 4 or 5 different dealers, and managed to organise to have 4 of them at the same shop by this morning to save me travelling around buying one at a time.
Shame on you Jaycar, you should have had them in stock where I wanted them when I wanted them

OK so maybe you got great service above and beyond there Philthy.......maybe my bad experience is a one off and maybe Michael is just having a bad day.......like I said, it's the first time I have used Jaycar but it hasnt impressed me
Ah, I didn't realise you had never been to Jaycar before. Every dealer I have ever been to has happily gone out of their way to help. Don't write them off just coz of one dick

You are right....Jaycar is a huge outlet and I guess it wont be long before Michael is working elsewhere if they really are that good at Customer service as a rule.

There was a thread some time ago about a bloke who had a bung amplifier or something and I'm pretty sure the moral of the story was that Jaycar did the right thing by him at some expense to themselves.
I have issues with the quality of much of their own branded gear (all the Electus Distribution stuff) because the materials, workmanship, overall quality is simply woeful - I'm quite sure some poor kid in Cambodia is being paid in bananas to build this shit.
The stores themselves however I can't say I have a problem with, I think you just managed to find the biggest dickhole in the company to speak to.
I would call back (speak to someone else hopefully) and get a refund on your next-day shipping - it sounds very misleading.

I wasnt looking for anyone here to solve the actual problems, just to comment on their experiences as this was my first time using Jaycar, thanks for sharing yours.
I have to agree jaycar is possibly one of the best companies when it comes to customer service... But at my local jaycar they seem like the nerdy/shy type of person who just do anything to get you off there arse and are scared your going to crack it lol
ok, there's a few of you who've had good experiences with Jaycar and thats great.
but the OP had a tough time with an anonymous knob on the phone who shouldnt really be in customer service by the sounds of it.
I know i'd be pissed if someone spoke to me like that on the phone. And considering he's paid extra for next day delivery thats really next week, I think he has a right to whinge a little.
Try and contact head office mate. Pick up the phone and ask for the details of the right guy to speak to address your concerns. Since you know the guy you spoke to (and the number you rang), do this Michael a favour and try and allieviate him of this job he hates so much.
At the very least try and get your express delivery charge refunded.
Remember, nice and calm. Be factual, not emotional. Get the right guys details and shoot him and email then follow up with a phone call the following day.
It'll at least give you something to do whilst waiting for your order.
ok to start with, i deal with jaycar very often and everytime i walk out feeling a little bit smarter once i have spoken about resistance readings or capacatance for half an hour or so.
secondly, the guy on the phone MAY just have been having a prick of a day.
third, TBH the OP sounds like a bit of a twat really. OK, so you paid a bit more for next day service and didnt get it. cheer up, there is someone out there with aids who wishes that was his only problem.
staff at jaycar have been nothing but helpful to me EVERY time i have been in there. their gear may not be top class but its very well priced and of VERY good quality. i think maybe OP{ needs to pull his head out of his own arse and realise that other people have bad days too, even customer service people. and most probably you made the other guys day just a little bit worse.

great idea, nice and calm, because working in customer service myself. if you get a customer that walks straight in and abuse's you, it puts you on the back foot, defensive, straight away.
But in saying that, Im currently waiting for a $2500 order (not from Jaycar... a melbourne computer company) that i paid for overnight shipping... that has taken over a month to get here. At the moment, nice and calm doesnt quite seem to be getting a response.

For the record, I spent 5 years in customer service and never once spoke to even the most challenged or demanding person the way this guy spoke to me. I also dont need to go to Jaycar for lesson about resistance, capacitance or anything else thanks, I did all that at university and made a career of it. I suggest you keep visiting them to get even smarter still, who knows, with hard work your comments may be worth 3 cents next time
If you think paying extra for nothing, then being shouted at for the trouble is acceptable, perhaps you can send me a couple of bucks so I can provide you with nothing for your money then return the compliment of calling you a twat.

Been into Springvale and Frankston Jaycar stores many times with varying levels of service. Sometimes they have no idea what they're on about, sometimes they do. Sometimes they're extremely helpful, other times they're just plain rude. It just depends on the person you deal with.
If I paid for next day delivery, I'd want next day delivery. ari666 has no idea.

OP had a legitimate cause for complain, and regardless of the terrific and educational experiences youve had, he obviously didnt.
