6x9s are not needed when youre planning to install a sub. Youre much better off going with a good set of splits to replace the door speakers. Theres not much room in those utes so you'll need a shallow type sub / enclosure. The Pioneer shallow subs are pretty good, as for the box i would go with something like this:

CUSTOM MADE SUB WOOFER BOX FOR VU,VY,VZ UTE,HSV MALOO - eBay Speakers, Audio, Video, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 20-Jan-10 17:22:34 AEDST)

I agree. I did a ute last year and fitted 2 10" subs behind the seats

I have a fibre glass sub box, behind the passenger seat, with a Kicker 12 inch flat sub. It goes hard, and the seat still slides back all the way. I'm happy with it.

Go make a custom box to the specs of your sub to fit in next to the fuel tank. i did it, and was so happy i didnt go the other way mate, you'll be better off.no need for shallow sub needed.
