Bought new soundstream components. One set sounds great, much better than stock vy speakers.
HOwever connecting up the other side hasnt happened yet. both the tweeter and woofer work when connected to original wiring, even with soildered joints for new connections. However nothing happens once connected via crossover.
if i turn the radio all the way up, the input speakers get hot, and i can hear some faint sound comming from the crossover unit itself. like it was a speaker. ive tried switching every wire every where, but no sound from either woofer or tweet. Opened her up and nothing seems amiss.
Any ideas? If the crossever is screwed alltogether, can any crossover be used with any set of speakers?
Cheers guys
Sounds like a crossover fault to me, although when you say "input speakers" what do you mean by that?
You should definitely have no noise at all coming from the crossover, that sounds like a component inside has failed.
Crossovers are built to suit specific speakers, mainly for the tweeters. If you somehow find out the crossover points and slopes then your could get someone (or yourself if you feel confident enough) to build one going off those specs.
One other thing to maybe try is using the crossover from the other side to make sure its at fault.
If they are new then why not take them back under warranty?

Hmm, well ok.......get in contact with the seller on Ebay and tell him whats happening, hopefully you'll be able to send back just the crossover and get a replacement.

I know this seems like a stupid question, but are you connecting the wires to exactly the same terminals on the crossover as the side that works? If so, dead crossover, but that is extremely rare so double, triple, quadruple check that the wiring is correct.
well ive connected them the way its told me to, following the lables on the unit itself n such. chance they might have put the rong lables on the wrong side?
Ill try n get some pics up, suck at using paint lol
i tried it using a normal home entertainment system, dunno if thats a stupid idea or not :P but again didnt work. have tried every connection possible, waiting for response from ebay dude to see what can be done.
I know crossovers are made for certain tweets, but will any woffer work with any crossover ( i.e. alpine crossover, apline tweet and soundstreat woofer?)
Yeah that alpine xover / tweeter combo will work fine with the soundstream woofer.
