Default Soundstream Picasso PCX1000D Monoblock 2000watt

Hi guys, been looking around for an amp for my mate and he has his eyes on the Soundstream Picasso PCX1000D Monoblock Class D Amplifier. He wants it to run two subs around the 800 watt- 1000watt rms mark, we are slowly making up his system as he gets money so the subs will come later on. Here are some of the specs just if anyone needs them-

    RMS Power Ratings:
    500 Watts x 1 Channel @ 4 Ohms
    800 Watts x 1 Channel @ 2 Ohms
    1000 Watts x 1 Channel @ 1 Ohm
    2000 watts max approx.

Anyway what i wanna know is how much he should expect to pay for one of these? Either off the net or a shop. Or if there is a amp with the same power and with the same quality but cheaper?

    Thanks!

I cant seem to find one of those, but i found the 700wrms version for around the $500 mark, so around $600 maybe?

Ive never liked Soundstream amps, but i think its just a personal thing (bad experience a long time ago).

Make sure you either one 2ohm dual voice coil sub or two 4 ohm dual voice coil subs, this will give you an optimum impedance for that amp.

Thanks mate, So if my mate wants to run two subs off that amp the subs have to be DVC 4ohm subs? Why can't they be say DVC 2ohm subs?

    Cheers!

Pretty sure i got a DVC 2 ohm sub lol. Its a VIBE 1000watt rms sub. What sort of power would that amp deliver to 2 DVC 2ohm subs? If you can tell from those specs.

    Thanks!

You have the Vibe Space 12? DVC 2 ohm if so

Two DVC 2 ohm subs gives you an impedance choice of 2 ohm (subs wired in series, then wired in parallel to the amp) or 0.5 ohm (subs wired in parallel, then wired in parallel to the amp). The amp is not stable at 0.5 ohm (very little are) so 2 ohm is your only choice - 800wrms or 400wrms to each sub. Still not too shabby, probably wont tell a huge difference by the ear, only a SPL meter will show it.

Yep thats the sub. Oh alrighty i see what the go is. I will make sure that he gets DVC 4ohm subs. I was just wondering about the wiring just for my own knowledge. i am slowly learning, wiring is the only thing that i seem to struggle with.

    Thanks Holdenboy!

Does anyone have any other options that he could go with in the way of an amp keeping in mind it has the same power rating and quality but for cheaper?

I could always work out a deal on an SPL Dynamics amplifier.

Might I suggest that if your mate hasn't got the money for the subs yet, that they hold off on buying the amp till you have enough for it all. Prices may get cheaper between now and then, or you might find a real bargain of an amp, or something.

The pcx soundstream amps are very strong, clean and reliable. Ive installed quite a few and have always been impressed with their porformance.

Holdenboy i think you got mixed up with your 2's and 4's, A single 4 ohm DVC sub to wire in parallel down to 2 ohm and 2 x 2 ohm DVC subs to wire the coils in series and the subs in parallel down to 2 ohms to run optimally from the amp.

That amp is rated at 800wrms at 2 ohm and 1000wrms at 1 ohm, i was trying to get a 1 ohm load (being optimal for the amp AFAIK)

So yeah, what youre saying is 2 ohms is the the optimal impedance for this amp?

Im not having a go....youve had more experience with these amps than me so dont take offence.

well yeah in terms of sound quality but the way you suggested will give maximum power, no offence taken lol.

Holdenboy, just thought you might want to know i looked up these amps on ebay for prices just out of interest and you can get one from the states for around $350 aud shipped. Thought thats a very good price!

Not bad, but it would be much better to buy it from Australia.......just think if something goes wrong and you have to send it back under warranty, your $350 amp gets expensive rather quick! Not to mention the weeks you'll have to wait to get it back. Youre much better off to pay an extra $150-$200 and buy locally, theres not only the warranty issue youre also supporting Aussie businesses.

Luke - fair enough......some people take offence on here rather quickly so i'd though i'd add that on

Yeah soundstreams after sales support is second to none, very quick and if your model has been superseded they will generally replace with the new model and even if you have done something to the product they try their best within reason to help you out. Definately the best brand for warranty in australia by a long shot.
