My mates sub is cutting out, he has told me that the music keeps going and theres no bass, its a 1200w sub and a 1000w mono block amp. I think it may be the amp cutting out going into safe mode, but im not sure. Is there anything he can do to fix it? without changing amps?
You can find out what's happening when it's cutting out...
Does a protection light appear on the amp? Do all the lights just go off? Does the amp appear to stay normal with all the lights the same?
What amp? What sub? What wiring?
Hot or cold or any day? Is the amp hot to touch when it cuts out?
Does it only cut out while driving or when stationary too?
Ask your question properly next time... We can't read minds or see his system.
Considering I dont know the answer to them and I haven t actually witnessed it happen it is impossible for me to answer those questions, I will ask him them though.
i have to rockford fosgate p2 subs run by a kicker zx700.5 amplifier also running 4 speakers. and a 2 farad capacitor, if my GAIN for the sub is 50%, the sound system willl cut out constantly and protection will turn on. it could be your power?

When the volume is high occasionslly the sub will kick back in, but if left on low it will stay on
Tell your mate to invest in a cheap voltmeter. Measure the voltage while the music is playing. If your experiencing voltage drops, this can cause your amp to cut in and out, in which case it could be battery/alternator related. But being a relitively basic setup, it's most likely just an issue with the wiring. What gauge wiring have you used, for both power and earth? Where have you earthed it from, and how long is the earth wire. Remember that the more you turn it up, the more current it draws. Make sure that no wires are touching each other, such as loose strands. You need to double check everything, such as connection of the power wire to the battery, is it properly secured.
Well this is the wiring kit he used:amp wiring kit 2ch 8awg incl rcas & cust
to me it doesnt really seem suffice for the job but yeah, I havent seen them.
He has it eathed in the boot somewhere, he *thinks* there is no paint where the earth is, I might make a trip down on the week end and see if I can sus it out.
