bypass for DVD playback?

Hi guys, hoping someone can help me.

I bought the JVC AVX710 DVD receiver, but i tried to play a dvd and I didn't get any picture. Sound worked fine though.

Says in the manual I need to connect the hand brake wire up....but I presume that will cut out the picture whilst the handbrake is down (after all, that's what it is designed for).

HOW DO I BYPASS THIS, so the picture is displayed all the time?

just earth the handbrake wire and the video will all the time
