    Default VN 1989 Radio

    Hey new to the forum.

I just purchased a holden vn 1989 S1 and it hasn't come with a radio which i don't really mind as i want a a new one anyways.

What i want to ask is what kind of radio head do i get? Or do i have to get some sort of convertor cable to install it.

1000% new to this sort of stuff

Head down to your local car audio place. Preferably a specialist car audio place, and not some car auto shop like Supercheap, Repco, Autobarn etc.

You can put in ANY single DIN CD player. You will need a wiring harness adapter, which is a converter that allows you to plug your car's loom into the headunit.

Apart from that, make a list of important features, and go shopping!

Cheers for that, but just curious as to what sort of wire would i be needing to get, as i don't know of any audio specialists close to where i live (manurewa, nz).

well basically its an adapter that you buy from a car audio shop or the internet that is specific to your model stereo you will be buying and the model of your car, so a VN. So lets say you buy a pioneer cd player/radio you will need a Pioneer to VN Commodore radio wiring harness adapter. It replaces the Pioneer plug and wiring you get with the Pioneer cd player/radio.
Considering you have limited access to a store with this adapter and shopping online will incur postage as well, its highly recommended you buy the stereo from a JB Hifi or similar store with the look and features you want and find your local auto electrician to install it. It should only cost around 50 to 75 dollars. Try and bargain down the price to 50-60 and you should be right.
