Hey guys i just bought a vx and im picking it up tomorrowand im just wondering insted of installing a custom head unit and then mucking arround trying to get the wheel controls to work with it (untill i install a proper sound system) i was wondering if the stock head unit can play mp3 CD's as thats the only function i use on a custom head unit or if it cant is there any way i can install a new CD player in the stock head unit that can read and play mp3 CD's?
Thanks
Well i own a vx II S-PACK
And my factory head unit can play mp3 files.
But you have to burn them on a cd-r not a cd-rw because the deck cant read the cd-rw
for some reason.
I dont use the factory head unit though not enough setting to play around with.
Why dont you just put a aftermarket deck in mate.
well ive got a headunit already that i put in my mums car while i was driving that but i like the wheel controls and want to be able to use them.... and mine is the acclaim so hopefully it can play mp3 or i may just have to put in the head unit (and find a spacer since its just a standerd size one) but then ive been reading and said that some head units can use the controls but not all and its another $100 and i dont think mine will be able to anyway since its just the basic pioneer head unit![]()
If you own a burner and have windows media player save the songs in the windows media player list and burn the songs on a cd-r and it should work on te factory deck because the format get changed from mp3 to wma and the deck can play this format. (well my factory deck does)
And to use the steering wheel control you need a external module (Wheel Audio Control Interfaceule. )
check this link out.

well on the CD that i use atm i have arround 150 songs in mp3 but that will change if i convert them to wma and hopefully it works dont feel like spending $130 on getting the wheel controls to work with new head unit when the stock one works(hopefully)
you wont fit as much as a mp3 when converted to wma.
you will fit 18-20 on one cd-r
mate
do you know what quality the head unit plays? because if it can only play 128kbps or something low then i could convert them all down to that quality that way i could fit more on the CD
There is a seeting on the media player were you can down grade the setting
from 32kbps to 192kbps.
I used to just leave my one on the highest quality.
You can set it between these figures go into burn options (I got windows vista)
32kbps reckon you will get 47 hours worth of music.
You're not converting them to WMA, you're converting to CDA which is a standard audio CD, that's why you only fit 18-20 songs. WMA files are the same size as MP3.
You're giving out incorrect information.
VX head unit only plays CDs, no MP3, WMA, AAC or anything compressed.
I just tried it on my mates car i coppied the cd-r and converted them the wma and it only fits 18-20 songs mate. becasue the kbps is at a higher rate so that why it will only fit that much mate.
And also i did on my factory head deck i would not just say it for no reason bro.
You're not listening.
Grab that CD with 18-20 tracks on it, put it in your computer, browse the CD with windows explorer and you'll see that they are CDA files, not WMA files (if you have extensions turned on).
Windows Media Player is burning you an audio CD, not a data CD.
ive got a vx s2 s pac and i put a pioneer cd playing it in, at the time i didnt no the steering wheel controls wouldnt work after it lol. but i got one of them- steering wheel control adapters- from ebay for $100 includ p&h it works great esay to install as well. they only work if your cd play uses them little remotes! most new cd players have them these days any way.

No it does not it says wma on it mate
I cd audio that is not compressed is called a wav file.
I dont no why it says it. But i no what you mean.
I burn it and it works bro
When you rip a CD it makes a wav file from the cda file on the CD. I have a CD in my computer right now and it says track1.cda, track2.cda, etc.
Anyway, I've tried MP3 and WMA in VT's and VX's and they've never worked because there's no compressed audio decoder in the units.
I have tried the same and was under the impression you could not play mp3s in these cars.
Unless my cpu is displaying wrong info about the file.
I am just going of what my cpu says. thats why i have said it will work mate.
But before that i thought the same as you did.
Lol all good bro
