Hey i just bought this ute and the sound is terrible. i was thinking bout putting some speakers, not sure whether to put 6x9 or 6inch or what behind the head rests of the seats on the parcel tray. now i would have to make up some sort of box for the m to go in but was just woundering if any of u guys had done this before or have any advice. Is it worth doing or not. and more importantly any pictures of previous or current installs would be much appreciated.
Cheers, By the way im New to this forum. Im Grant![]()
Hey mate, check out my install, ive got 6x9s on the back deck. Look up my thread in the post ur ride section. got pics of em there.
Having your main set of speakers behind you would suck.Your better off replacing your factory door speakers, and then maybe adding a single sub.The sub on the other hand could be mounted behind, even close to to you, wouldn't matter, and it's fq's are non directional so it would seemingly blend in with the rest of your music, and you'd get a huge amount of cabin gain..![]()

Cool Thanks guys. Well i had a vp ute not long ago and it had component speakers in front (6inch and tweeters) and i put a sub under the tray and an amp under the seat. it sounded pretty good but wasnt the best, LIke i could only turn it up so muxh before it would distort> Any susgestions. i dont haave unlimitted funds either. Cheers
Well, what was distorting? The sub , the speakers? What components, and what amplifiers where you using? Was it properly tuned, such as the high and low pass filters? With a bit of simple planning it's quite easy to get a good sounding setup in a ute, especially a loud setup..

I have a set of 6.5" components in the doors or my VR Ute (had to make my own door pods cause of the extra half an inch) and a sub under the tray, run them off an amp and they are plenty loud enoughI had a set of 6" on the parcel shelf aswell when I got the ute and I took them out two days later

Reply to HoldenCommodoreVP's post and we can work from there.
Also, how much do you plan on spending anyway, I could always check to see if I could work out a package for you.

umm well price isnt really a limit. like i havent set a price but just something reasonable as i am an apprentice. well i have Fusion 6.5" component speakers and tweeters which i installed the other day so i more or less just gotta prob get a decent sub and amp that'll do the job
Do you need something which is in a box that would fit or will you be building/getting a custom made box?

Grant, it would be much more helpful to Joe, and also those of us who have replied to your post, if you were include a bit more detail. There is no point in saying "yeh prob just a decent sub and that'll do" or "ummm well price isn't really a limit"
Tell us more info, such as what size sub you would like, where you like to mount it,would you prefer ported or sealed, what sort of music you listen to, you budget, and what you expect out of the install, and any future plans or upgrades you might have in mind.
The more info, detail and description you give us in your replies, the more we are able to give you back.Just trying to help out...
i have made a sort of parcel shelf up that sits on the back part and they dont bother me with sound or anything as long as i can hear my music and what not lol and it doesnt look half bad
but i also have racing seats so they have holes where if i had a harness it would come through there but its right where the speaker is so the sound comes straight through but i also have it so more of the sound comes through my splits in the doors

O sorry. umm well in my old ute i had a 12inch pioneer sub in a box i made which fitted under the tray. all i did was take out one of those lil panels from under the passenger seat which goes through into where the fuel tank is to just port the sound through. now i think the sub was 600w and i had a boss 400w 2 channel amp (as far as i can remember) and it was pretty good but as i said previously it used to distort up loud.
At the moment i have a set of 240w fusion component speakers. 6.5" ones in the doors and the tweeters in the corners of the windscreen. and just a JVC headdeck. now im a bit of a music fan and like the music reasonably loud. and as i have a 5L with a 3" exhaust u cant really hear music over the car hahahhaha.
so my plans are to put a sub, either 10" or 12" in a box under the tray so that i dont lose cabin space and to put an amp to power under the passenger seat or if there is any other suggestions on where it can go to look good would be appreciated. umm i was thinkinkg bout alos putting soume speakers being the headrests on the parcel tray bit and fading the noise mainly to the front just to get that sound but i dont really no to much about these things thats why im lookin to use to give me advice on a good set up if posibble.
Now as for the price range im not that well off for money at the moment being an apprentice and all but my limit is prob round the 500 mark if possible.
if anyone has any other suggestions of where else to put the speakers or subs, amp. different types of installs etc well im open for suggestions.
and sorry for not explaining my self properly. im only new to this and im just getting used to explaining my self
Thanks guys
I'd lose the idea about the rear mounted speakers. Anything mounted in front of you, will be both louder and clearer, than if you were to mount it behind you.If your a lover of music, rather than just noise, then you will apreciate a good front stage.Imagine a conversation between you and me, and how it would sound if you were to turn and face you back to me, while i continued to talk to you. This is sort of the same thing that happens when you mount speakers in the rear.Rear mounted speakers can be of use in some apllications, but in your case, especially in a ute, there really is no point.
Now you say your sub used to distort when you played it loud, how do you tune your sub, how do you like your music? Do you like you sub to play with real authority, or do you just like to blend in nicely with the rest of your music? Because $500 isn't going to get you much. You could get yourself a sub and amp package, while it won't be the best, it will offer improvement, or you could look at upgrading your front sound stage.Which Fusion model are they, are they the EN (the green ones?) If so, getting rid of those Fusion components and replacing them with something better will work wonders for you.Remember though, without sufficient power going to them from an external amp, then sometimes there is little point in replacing them, as with out the extra power, you cannot expect any extra performance. Are you any good at fiberglassing? If you are, i may have something for you within your budget that may interest you....
Umm there only brand new fusion crossovers i put in the other day so i was thinking bout maybe investing in a 4 channel amp and wiring up the speakers to 2 channels and a sub to the other two. umm i like my music to thumpim more into dance music and stuff.
umm im personally not good at it never really tries but i have a mate that does fibreglassing so. whats the idea?
