Default Head unit and amp help

    Hi guys,

I have a Kenwood HU which i will be putting into my mazda. I've noticed that on the back of the kenwood HU, it has 2 RC outputs that say Rear R and L. I was wondering, can i use these to power my audioline amp for my sub, and use the speaker outputs (Front R L and Rear R L) for my JL audio amp to power my speakers. The reason i ask this is, the HU doesn't have any settings to change levels of the separate rear control for the RC outputs which makes me think they are on the same circuit as the Rear R L speaker wires... and therefore you use one or the other?

    Thanks,
    Adam

You can wire it as you said, but as you adjust the rear speaker level (with fader) you'll be adjusting the sub too. It just means you'll have to use the EQ to adjust your bass levels rather than a dedicated sub level control. So make sure you set the high pass filter on the amps for all the speakers so your bass adjustment doesn't hit them as well.

Depends if your amp has the capacity to get a signal using the high level inputs. Another thing to take note of is that if your going that way it tends to have a higher chance of distortion.

The way i had it in my old car used only the JL audio amp. Sub woofer was over 2 channels and my 4 speakers were over 2 channels. Should i leave it this way?

Yes my JL audio amp supports low/high voltage. I'm assuming the rca connections on the HU are not amplified though?

Anyone? Would the rear RCA's be amplified or not? If not, i am thinking i could use them for my JL audio amp instead of the speaker wires which are amplified.

Sorry but I am a bit confused RCA's are for signal processing only. The amplification is done in the amplifier (obviously)

But the head unit amplifies the speaker wire outputs. I want to know whether it amplifies the RCA outputs too? If not, then using the RCA output for the JL Audio amp would be better than using speaker output wires from HU into JL audio amp.

RCA's provide a cleaner signal then high level input. If I was you for the time being I would just get the sub going, use the HU to power the speakers and later on down the track get a HU than has 3 RCA outputs (being Front, Rear and Sub)

When i had my VY SS i had ASR Audio's standard stereo mod with low level outputs and it worked great. Currently i'm driving a piece of s#1t 1991 mazda so don't want to spend a lot on a stereo i may never use again.

Will let you know what i end up doing.

Go the doofage for the chicks mate. Most HU's are pretty good for stock speakers so yeah why not have the kick of a sub. Amplifying stock speakers is a waste of time.
