Alrighty,
Been trying to learn more about audio set-up for cars and have gotten some help from people on the forums (thanks guys). I have been looking at car audio on the web for a bit and have found WOW to be a good place for some cheap stuff to help my sound, especially since i'm working on a budget.
Below is what I am planing to add onto my stock commy vs within the next week or so.
All prices are from the 'WOW Sight N Sound' website.
$ 90 SONY CDXGT180 CD/TUNER 52Wx4 AUX IN 1 x RCA DETACH FACE Head Unit
$ 80 2 x 6.5" 260 watt 3-way speakers
$ 60 Fusion Reactor 12" Single Voice Sub-woofer
$ 35 Sub-woofer box
$100 Boss Audio Mono Block AMP 1000 watts amp
____
$365 TOTAL
____
I will go and listen to it before purchase, but budget wise this is mint and will sound alot better than the standard sound system of the vs lol
Few questions about the items:
2 x 6.5" speakers - I know that 6" go in easy, I assumed the 6.5" will go in well?
Fusion Reactor Sub - The site had both 12" Fusion 'reactor' and 12" fusion 'encounter'. From what i see on the Fusion Website, the reactors are meant to be better and cost more than the encounters, yet on WOW the encounter is $20 less than the encounter... that make sense?
Boss Audio Amp - Seems to be a pretty good buy since it is only $100 atm and is usually $170! hopefully this system gets good write ups?
Thanks again for the help/advice and putting up with a car audio virgin lol
PS: anyone know what WOW will charge me for installation on this? I'll phone up tomorrow anyways and find out I guess.
PSS: Was also thinking of getting sub facing into the car and just pull down the centre back seat, hopefully they have enough wiring though so i can move it the other way round if i want too aswell.
thanks
Matt

the 6.5" speakers will fit into the standard 6" speaker hole with slight modification/cutting of the plastic
if you are good with your hands you should be able to install the whole system yourself if you take your time. give it a day or so.
stay away from Boss they are complete rubbish
look for something from a reputable brand instead to save yourself a whole lot of grief
^---- I agree, and those amps have been known to start fires.... Plus alot of people get the Strathfield Boss Audio amps confused with the American branded Boss Audio. If you can see the amp listed on the website link, it's an ok honest purchase. If the one you're talking about has a model number starting with the letters "BA", it's not in anyway connected to the American branded Boss products.
JSTCOZ, do you intend to put the three ways in the front?? Having three ways in the front would be way to bright. Try and find a set of two way splits, that way you will get a much better sound!

If you are on a budget and are looking for a cheap and reliable subwoofer solution I will throw a couple of my solutions in:
Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists - FLI Trap 12" Active
Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists - EDGE ED Bass 12 ACTIVE
Both of those are built well and include decent subs, great boxes, a build in amplifier and a wiring kit to power it. It will cost a bit more but I know those of those packages have been designed to work effectively and reliably.
I've also got some cheap speakers which I think are great value for money: Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists - EDGE ED206
That said, I think you are better off saving your money on the rears and only upgrading the fronts. My customers rave about these: Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists - FLI INTEGRATOR COMP 6 (I agree with vg-ute-mad)
Thats my imput, btw I'm the owner of that website so I can answer any questions you might have about the gear![]()

All of these prices are wayy too high for me sorry. I'm not looking for an awesopme system, im not overly picky on sound, i just want some cheap speakers that get good write ups (fusions) and that are an improvement on a standard system. I was hoping to pay no more than $450 in total for everything.
maybe i can get a
KENWOOD 2CH AMP, 350W MAX, 60W X 2 RMS AMP for $140 instead of the Boss Audio then?
Does the AMPs Watt level, need to be equal too or higher than the max Watt output of all the other things you have? Like sub and speakers and head unit?
My mate says it does... that true?
You need to look at the speakers RMS power handling, then look at amps with around the same RMS output per channel.
In saying that, a pair of 60wrms speakers will run fine off a head-unit. You just wont get the full potential from the speakers, as they arent getting the optimum power they require.

Yeah, sorry I didn't mean to offend. Just not having alot of money and income at the moment. And that's an online store yes? rather a store i can drive to as well. much appreciated for your help though. maybe if WOW doesnt go well ill have a look again at what youve suggested .
Before you go out and buy all this stuff, give the money to someone else so you can't spend it, come back, sit down, and start again lol.
You can't just grab any amp, and expect it to run any sub and so forth.I didn't have time to look, but does that head unit even have a sub out? otherwise it's going to be shit house to tune without it.
I suggest you take you time, you seem like your in a bit of a rush to go out and buy stuff.I woudn't be concerned that Joe's store is online, at least it is a dedicated car audio store.Wow sells everything from electric toothbrushes to fungus cream.
No worries mate. I do look forward to dealing with you in future though. I wish you luck and hope they look after you. I started this business because I used to be in your situation and I was really unhappy with the service I got from my local big shops. I hope your experience is better than mine was!![]()

Just rang up wow and they were gunna charge me $850 with labor charges.... i think i need to rethink.
'Joe Bellissimo' how much does it cost with postage and what would installation prices be looking around? EDIT: Remembered i have a friend that installs audio in cars for a living... lol
Also, I am now easing up abit and won't rush into buying speakers. Joe I am looking over your site too, you're right that the prices and quality are better, just took me a bit fo calming down to realise it.
thank you

Thats cool mate. To be honest I would be trying to offer free shipping but it would depend where you live. PM me your postcode and I will look into it.
Thanks for considering the products on my site mate! I really hope as you progress through your research that you will find me gear to be what your looking for!

Fusion has packs which come with everything to get sub-woofers going. Generally cost effective as it comes with everything (the sub, amp and all associated wiring). If your on a budget option audio 6.5" in the doors and parcel shelf will be ok. Sony has decent head units as do JVC.
hey mate, i recommend buying/installing one component at a time, eg. headunit first, then front speakers, then rear speakers etc. i did this in my old car (my first audio install) and it helped me to get a better understanding of what each component did, like i found out how much of a difference a headunit can make to sound quality.
also, in my system i found that its worth spending a bit more money to get a good quality, more powerful amp.
just my 2 cents, but good luck with the install and everything
Drop clutches, not bombs.
Well said!!! I counldn't agree more!!!!![]()
