hi. i have a 1995 vs commodore wagon. i have stock speakers in the front doors with no amp and a twin head sub in the back with no amp. all hooked straight tomy head deck. driving along one day everything was working and suddenly no sound. no sound from the head eck even though it was still working and no sound from speakers or sub! i bought a new head deck but same thing is happening! any idea why this has happened?
Probably blown the head unit amplifier. The impedance on sub's can be different to speakers which means you may of blown the amp in your new head unit as well. Sub's should always have there own amplifier.
Could be a number of things, explain how youve wired the head-unit to the speakers / subs.
One wire could be touching earth or each other somewhere along the line.
Its not good practice to power subs of an head-unit too, youre much better off to put some money away week by week and buy an amp for the subs. This way you wont be going through head-units and get some serious sound!

the head unit still works works. it turns on and everything but no sound comes out of any speaker. is it possible that i may have blown the speakers and the sub or something. the sub is in the back and its two wires run under the seats, under the centre console and then up behing the head deck. all the wiring is stock wiring except the sub. and its all been working they way its been for a couple of years. and suddenly the sound has stopped working. no fuses are blown ive checked them. the earth is still good. and as far as i know the wiring through the car is all good.
Just put the factory one back in and leave it as it, seriously
Just had a quick read, You are running stock speakers front, Woofers in the back and all off a H/U?
Sound System Fail.
it was running like that for a year though and just randomly stopped working. i took the sub out and put a new head unit in and still isnt working. its just no sound at all. how do i fix this problem?
You don't just fix it.You install components correctly. If you continue to wire things up the way you have been, then your going to be frequently bumping this thread...
Fix it by doing the following:
* Remove the subwoofers from the system, DO NOT CONNECT TO NEW HEAD-UNIT.
* Using a multimeter on the "ohms" setting, check each speaker wire at the head-unit. It should read in between 3-4.5 ohms. If it dosent, that speaker youre testing either has a problem or the wiring running to it is broken / touching earth / touching each other (+ and -). Check wiring in the door jamb and at the speaker itself.
* Make all connections at the head-unit properly, including soldering and taping / heatshrinking.
