Default Stock Eurovox with RCA upgrade or aftermarket head unit in a VX?

yeah so i want to know some of the pro's and con's btwn the two, i already know the cons of having the aftermarket unit like losing my aerial and steering wheel controls...

I mostly want to know what the set backs of having the stock unit upgraded will be, like limited inputs/restricted power/hardware conflicts, everything. If there are any?

Is there any way to run the steering wheel controls through an aftermarket HU?
Because the stock one is shite. Well it is in our VX anyway!

You can still control steering wheel and antenna if you do things right. So they're only a 'con' if you can't be bothered or can't afford it.

Stock head unit 'cons' are that you have hardly any audio adjustment, not the best sound quality, doesn't play MP3/WMA/etc, no extra features like iPod control, Bluetooth, sub control, etc.

Personally, I see audio adjustment about a million times more important that steering wheel controls.

    True that.
I liked the ones in my statesman while I had the stock radio in.
But now I've got my dvd player in it's heaps better, Although it doesn't compare to my Alpine 9886 lol.

I'd say, Give up your steering wheel controls and don't be lazy and lean over about a foot more to turn it up and down haha.

what do u mean u can keep steering controls if u do it right? im pretty sure u cant because there is no way for an aftermarket head unit to read the variance in voltage signals without the adaptor thingo u can buy...

And how do i go about keeping the automatic antenna from staying in the "up" position? I didn't think the aftermarket HU's had that feature either?
im sure most people wouldn't like their dorky aerial to be poking out all the time lol

Yeah aftermarket HU's have the antenna ability. I belive its the same wire used for your 'signal' wire for an amp....

Just ask to look at the connections for the head-unit your purchasing, it'll have a tag on one of the wires that says 'pwr. ant'

Aftermarket head units also some times have better built in amplifiers and audio processors so will make even the factory speakers sound better. Also you can get an adaptor for steering wheel controls. Also most headunits have a separate wire (not the amp wire) that can be used for the auto antenna.

Use the QUOTE button to the bottom right if you wish to quote someone's post in future. It makes it look much neater and easier to understand.

By doing it right, I mean using the adaptor.

Some brand head units have separate antenna wire and amp/system wire. So your antenna will only be up when the radio is on. Other brands use a common wire so the antenna is up all the time. I was actually referring to the adjust UP/DOWN controls though. You can hook up a 3 way toggle switch that resets to the middle so you can still control your antenna height.

My post was very neat but i will for you, feel special okay

I havnt seen anything on this 3 way toggle switch idea before but it actually sounds like a do'er but i realy just want it down whenever the radio is off and up when its on, so which would be easier?
