Gday mate. I'm the car audio sponsor on here (Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists)
Just thought I would help out and ask you a couple of questions, the others will have more to ask but I'll make a start.
1. What sort of budget do you have in mind?
2. What expectation do you have of the upgrade?
3. What kind of music do you listen to?
4. Is boot space a consideration?
Let us know that and we can all help you out further!

Hi
If you can stretch the budget to 3k you can get a great sounding system.
Amp,deadening,sub,speakers and install
id love to spend that much but i'd say my budget is about 1,500-2,000. I listen to alot of hiphop/rnb with lots of bass. I currently have nothing in my boot so space doesn't really concern me. I dont need something super good just something that will giv eme clarity and lots of bass at the same time.
Does that include installation or are you doing that yourself?

If you arent worried about calrity or boot space the you could get it pro installed for 2k or under
Why not just spend your entire budget on a single sub/amp.Your current speakers should provide enough volume for adequete listening levels, the only thing lacking is bass authority.Bass on a budget look below.

Dont worry about the head unit in the above as the one in the berlina cannot really be changed and is fine, the only thing that you would have to clarifiy is if the above includes installation.
i spent closer to 3k and have no issues with the install or soud qualitly and i listen to metal (metallica, fear factory) and some of Tiesto`s albums
I had a look at trying to install it myself but i am now glad on getting a pro to install it as my last cars i have installed the systems myself but they did not sound as good as i have now
With the above system's mentioned, there is no inclusuion of LOC, or similiar for connecting of amps, and the sub will underpowered running bridged of the 2 spare channels.A VE is a big car, fedding 200 or so watts into a sub in a car that size, will do next to nothing, especially once your underway and battling with intrusion noise.
My car system sounds fine connecting directly to the amps and can be played loud without any hint of distortion or electrical noise from the system and a it runs a 10" sub

You might wanna also remember that the factory VE Berlina Stereo happens to incorporate the climate control onto the screen itself.....
Try istalling a Calais Head unit that will incorperate all the existing gadgits and lots more with a better sound!!!
You might want to stop throwing that comment around considering it is false. From a source point of view, there is no audible difference between the base model, and the colour display units found in the higher spec versions.
You cannot simply plug a Calais unit into an Omega. The units require programming changes to the car, the unit, and changes to the climate control / AC system.
And to add to what HCVP has said, NICE THREAD DIG BUDDY.
