just wondering where to put them in free to air or box the subs
subs are clarion xw1200 series 15"
Just need to clarify that it's "free air" subs not "free to air", that's TV
Free air subs are made to go on a baffle or something and use a large area as the enclosure. Most people put a board across behind the back seats in a sedan and mount the sub to it facing into the cabin. This way the boot acts as a large box for it. This would be near impossible with two 15's in a sedan. I hope you have a wagon that you can use the whole tailgate as a box. Or else buy proper subs made to go in normal size boxes.
Are you asking whether we prefer a free air setup, or an enclosure when it come to sub placing?
If so, then i'm of the opinion that there is absolutely no need, or use, to go free air with subs.I also can't see any benifit's either.Space saving aside, if you want subs, then you sacrifice the space. It's like saying i want a lowered car, but it must never scrape.
I don't know when free air setups became popular, i think it was the 90's, when people would mount them on their parcels shelf's.I think this was more of a show thing though, and i'm guessing that the owners of the vehicles at the time, had little, if any knowledge, of infinite battle setups.
I've played around with some IB setup's in 2ch HT use, with some pretty average results.Whether that was due to my limited knowledge, i'm not sure, but i don't think i would go down that path again with future DIY projects.
cheers thinking of giving it a go not much to loose only using one mounting board. they use to be in box in last car but i broke up box the old box up not thinking i will use them again due to been sick of removing subs once a month for street meets. they didn't do as good as they probley should of in the box. so thats why i asked.
those subs are definitly NOT designed for fre air....they are best suited to sealed enclosures....didn't even really perform well in vented let alone free air
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
yeah, but XW series never had a free air series.

Yeah, I thought he had no idea what sub he had since he listed the 12" model, so I just went along with his free air idea![]()
