hi all need help as i want to add an amp to my ute but i've been told i need a convertor for the rca but i also been told i can use some of the wire's as well as the rca if so can some one tell me which one's they would be pls and the colour code if you know them. thank you for your time
You can get the convertors from Jaycar. And the wiring is the standard green, purple, grey, white pairs. Green and purple pairs are your rear speakers...grey and white pairs are your fronts
First off welcome to JC
If youre planning to run a subwoofer off the amp then this Jaycar one will be fine (low quality). But if you want to power speakers off the amp then a higher quality one is the best way. Joe from shopping secure can help you there (look in site sponsors or click on this link).
I have posted the speaker wiring colours a couple of times in the past, so just a small piece of advice is to do a search before posting up a new topic. This way you get your answer quick and dont have to wait for replies
If wanting to power a subwoofer, then i suggest connecting the "RCA converter" (LOC) to the rear speaker wiring at the head-unit and activating the rear channels, to enable rear speaker outputs, turn the ignition on and turn off the cd player, then hold next track and next disc and power button in at the same time for about 10-15 seconds and the service menu will come up. then change the 2 channels into 4 channels.
Rear speaker wires:
Left Rear - Yellow/Red(-) Brown(+)
Right Rear - Light Blue(-) Dark Blue(+)
If wanting to power speakers, tap into the front speaker wiring:
Left Front - Grey(-) Brown(+)
Right Front - Dark green (-) Light green/Black(+)
If you want a power souce to turn the amplifier on / off with the ignition you'll need to remove the drivers side of the centre console to access an unused plug, this has accessories power in it so just attach a wire to that and run it to the amp. The wire is in a white plug, its brown / yellow.
Luke0011 uses a different wire, from the factory handsfree kit.....located behind the glovebox and its a brown wire apparently.
EDIT: heres a pic of the stereo, showing the speaker wiring plug and the spare plug with accessories power:
