im looking for a full system for my first car (05' VZ SV6) which ill be driving in a few months,
i went down to JB-HIFI the other day and spoke to a guy for about half an hour about what he recommended and what not, this is what we came up with:
Pioneer AVHP3150DVD
JL Audio C2600 6-inch
JL Audio TR690 6x9s
Kicker ZX350.4 4ch amp
Kicker ZX750.1 mono block amp
Kicker DCVR 2x12" boxed subs
all up including installation and wires it came to just under $3k,
what do you guys reckon/recommend?
thanks in advance.![]()
That is a damn good setup compared to what i'm running lol. Those subs there sure do pump, just wondering why you got the 6x9's there? Are you planning to run a HPF through them?
VN WAGGY! Bur Bur Bur Bur
not sure man, dont know much about car audio...i just thought getting 6x9s was standard?
6x9's are best when you dont want to install subs the bottom end frequencys emitted from the 6x9 simulate the frequencies found in subwoofers..
you won't need the 6.9z in your sv6...
I own a 04 sv6 and I hav 6.5inch splits in the front powered by a bridged 4 channel amp and my rear speakers are just stock running off the headunit faded to the front and also hav 2 12inch subs running off a mono amp and the system pumps...
I was goin 2 put 6.9z but found out by a lot of ppl that you wouldn't need that extra bit of base if you hav 2 12inch subs....
Yep - 6x9 are not at all needed when you have a sub or subs. They try to do too many things at once and it sounds pretty crappy when you have proper bass coming from subs.
Get rid of the 6x9's and spend more money on front splits/amp to run them. It will sound better in the front with just the stock speakers running off the h/u than with 6x9 in the back. If you really care about your passengers then you could run some 6inch coaxils in the rear and that would be plenty.
Otherwise sounds like a good system mate.

****ing JB Hi Fi !! It never ceases to amaze me the amount of brain dead morons who work in the car audio section at these stores, yet they know absolutely jack shit about car audio.
The purpose of a 6x9'' speaker, is to offer better bass response , and power handling, compared to your typical round coaxial, or split system speaker, for similar money. The extra bass response is only applied when run in full range. With any addition of a sub, there is no need to run your speakers in full range, as they are no longer required to produce low frequencies, (or the full fq spectrum) as you now have a dedicated low fq, bass, speaker.
So any low fq response they would have produced, will now be out wieghed ,by the sub, meaning you won't even hear them.
You already have rear fill speakers.Let me tell you know, any aftermarket replacement coaxial's, under $150, are not going to sound any better than what's already in place, especially if it's only going to be run from the head unit, and faded to the front. It's put simply, money wasted that should have gone elsewhere.
Also, who quotes a $3000 setup, without any form of sound deadning? Another reason not to go back.
The 4 channel amp should be bridged to provide maxuimum power for the front speakers, and ideally you would want a larger mono block amp than the one they reccomended you.
If you want some honest, unbiased, and accurate advice, post your budget, and expectation's of the final setup, and what you would ultimately like out of your setup.
I'm not going to hound you about the 6x9 mistake, you heard it enough.
My poinion is
get the jvc head deck from jb, from memory it's about 400 and gives you 3 RCA outputs, meaning you have 3 outputs 1 for front 1 for rear and 1 for subs, which then you can control everything from the HU for running, also the jvc offers full iPod, USB, aux and can use Bluetooth.
Next stick with the JL front splits if you like the sound of them, speakers alway go by ear, cause in the end, youll be listening to them, get some relativle cheap 6" rears if you carry passangers which most people do.
Bridge the 4 Chanel to a 2 Chanel, rundown the front from the amp rears from the head unit,
Subs are a good choice plenty of kick, but as I said go by ear nt point buying them if there's too much kick for your likeing, and then with the amp, if you can afford it shell out for a good brand with high power
Ryda have a jl 1000watt mono which is superb for around the same price.
And as said above look into dynamatting, it's reduces road noise so when your pushing the whip you won't hear wats going on outside as much, and you don't have to have the system cranking 24/7
Rule 1 go by ear not by the sales person
Rule 2 shop around that's how you save money
Rule 3 don't let jb install it unless they outsource it to a legitamate car audio shop
Also if it's a doubble din DVD ryda have a great keenwood head deck, what I'm looking at putting in my Calais when and if I get it
