lo' all.
could someone recommend an mono block amp to run my 10 inch subs. looking for entry level stuff but not as crap as ebay. would really like something that has 30hz low pass.
the drivers are a japanese brand that came out of one of my imports (owner didnt want them) no power ratings on them but the magnets are huge and you can tell they are quality. would guess up around 150W RMS each.
there are two in the box, dimensions at a guess would be around 30 litres total area with two 80cm vents which extend 20cm's inside. i know its a small box but i was limited on space in my boot.
its been such a long time since i looked for amps i dont even know where to start. i had a quick look at jaycar, but their response stuff doesnt seem to be all that cheap anymore. was hoping for something around the $200 mark, no more than 300.
thanks in advance
You need to know the impedance of the subs and how they're wired (series/parallel) before you even take any recommendations.
Why do you want a 30Hz low pass filter? I think you may be confused. With ported boxes people sometimes HIGH pass at around 30Hz to prevent the sub from "unloading" below the ported box's tuning frequency. The LOW pass filter is usually set somewhere between 50-100Hz. 80Hz is a good starting point, then adjust from there to see what suits your subs and speakers.
hi mate.
i will just assume they are 4ohm and they are wired in parell (...think back to high school, um) the two drivers are running off one input on the side. so i guess that makes them ... 8ohm? but it goes the other way doesnt it, so 2ohm. lol.
the reason for the low pass is that i want to kill off any and all high freq noise. there are 6x9's and 6.5 splits to handle that. i just want punch.
anyways, on the given (albeit crap) information, any suggestions?
Yeah, if they're 4 ohm each and wired in parallel, it will be a 2 ohm load to the amp. All monoblocks will run 2 ohm, since you don't know the power rating of the speakers, I'd just look at a mono that does 300-500Wrms @ 2 ohm.
30Hz is way too low. Everything under 30Hz is nearly inaudible. You'll want an 80Hz low pass filter or adjustable one. Then you high pass the speakers above 80Hz.
Just an example of how easy it is to find something

yeah, i been through the whoe range of ryda's stuff. still doesnt tell me whats good 'bang-for-buck' value though.
Clarion is good quality for quite cheap, Soundstream are more expensive but apparently very good quality. I've used Pioneer amps before, good price, and never let me down.
