I'm looking to upgrade from my current sound system (aXis 400w amp + 12" aXis sub) to 2 Clarion subs and amps.
I wanna get 2 of these subs - Clarion Australia | WQ3010D
I take it I need 2 amps to run this, so my question is which Clarion amps do I need and what would be the minimum?
Clarion Australia | Amplifiers
Cheers,
Chris.
Alrighty those subs are 500wrms each and are 4 ohm dual voice coil. So ideally an amp with 1000wrms+ at 1 ohm impedance or 2 amps with 500wrms+ each at 2 ohm impedance.
This gives you two options from Clarion, depending on how much you want to spend:
2 x Clarion XR2110s, 400wrms at 2 ohm. A little underpowered for those subs but still OK. Total RRP $538.
2 x Clarion XH7110s, 850wrms at 2 ohms. A little overkill but thats a good thing. Total RRP $1198.
So theres your options from Clarion, but if youre willing to go with another brand.....
Fusion 1500wrms @ 1 ohm monoblock, Ryda Price $370. This gives you a similar amount of power to the XH7110s, but at less than 1/3rd of the price.
Kenwood 900wrms+ @ 1 ohm monoblock, Ryda Price $350.
So yeah, as you can see theres probably better options for the money other than Clarion. But in saying that they do make good quality amps and the new models look cool!

so the 2 XR2110's will run the 2 subs with no problem?
i run the Fusion 1500wrms @ 1 ohm monoblock in my car with 2 Pioneer subs it runs them fine havnt had a problem with them
Also, what gauge wiring would i need? is 8 still ok?
Yep the 2 XR2110's will run them fine. Personally i would use 2 runs of 4AWG or a single run of 0AWG then use a distribution block to split it into 2 4AWG cables. Just to make sure theyre not missing out on power.
