Hey Guys,
I was just wondering if their is a way to turn the amp (and therefore the sub) off while letting the rest of the stereo play. I would like to know as if I am listening to music with the engine turned off, I wouldn't want the sub chewing up heaps of power. I had a quick play with the headunit and couldn't find an applicable function. Would it be possible to install an on/off switch in the remote wire?

About the only thing i can think of would be to install a line breaker switch on the remote wire. How you bring the wiring and the switch neatly into the cabin, i'm not sure of.Possibly mounted somewhere in the glove box would be a possibility.
You can pick them up from Dick Smith, for about $5. Jaycar could possibly offer them aswell. It's basically a toggle switch, in which the wire enters at either side, and the switch act's as the circuit connector/breaker.
just go buy a cheap switch and mount it where you want, just have it inline with the remote wire coming from ur headunit. I did the same thing in my first car so i could turn the sub off whenever i wanted.

This is were the Auto-elec comes in.
So let me get this right you want your car amp that drives your sub-woofer to turn off when the car is not running.
You can buy a voltage sensitive relay / solenoid.
How this works is when the car is running the Alternator charges around 13-14 volts. When the car is off the voltage drops back to 12 volts.
Well what this device does is when the car is running it will close the circuit and turn on what every load you want to turn on. When the car is turned of or when 12 volts is present the circuit will be open circuit.
In your case the amp remote wire will have no power.
The down side is if your alternator stops charging then your sub will be turned off but you can just install a bypass switch if this happens.
Lol yeah I work for BMW...but I'd still own a HSV over a Beemer...Just can't picture myself driving a car like that...
Anyway yeah I already had two missile switches installed in the flip-down panel under the steering wheel so I've just used one of them. Seems to work fine. There's only a slight delay between when the switch is flicked and when the amp turns on.
