Can any1 help me with putting my 6x9's into the back of my VS,i understand the backseat may need to be removed to take the shelf out.How do i do that and wat is the best method of cutting the shelf.Any info on the proccess would most helpful.............Thanx guys
you have to take the bottom of the back seat out to access the bolts holding in the back of the seat. there should be some little pull straps at the front of the seat base. it should come out no worries along with the back of the seat which should be just 2 bolts anyways. parcel shelf is held in by plastic trim 'screws' and also should come out pretty easy.....its all plain sailing from there...yell out if you get stuck....
I did wat ya said and it worked like a charm, thanx man. There on an angle but they fit without cutting anything.I'll leave it like that until i get speaker box's for them.
i would cut it if i was you. I used boxes for a while but they look bad. When youve got the parcel shelf of its easy. You will see that where the old speakers where is rasied. Just get a jigsaw and cut in half then jimmy it off, its only spot welded on. It actually looks good once you mount the speakers
hope this helps
looked bad ya say,is that looking from the inside or outside coz im going to put dark window tint on b4 summer and if it looks shit from the inside i'll try your theory
I have used speaker boxes or stands, what ever they are called and They sounded a little werid and did look pretty shitty. I would not recomend you cut the metal parcel shelf becuse it is unroadworthy if you do so. It weakens the structure of the car. I built a parcel shelf myself to fit my 6x9s in my vp and it looks great and speakers fit well. I think it cost me 50 to make and it sonds and looks good.

Ya right, that does look good, how'd ya do it and can ya do custom jobs coz this has given me a few idea's
im not talking about cutting structual.... when you get the parcel shelf off you will see that there is a section of it raised to hold the speakers. CUT IT OFF!!! it is not unroadworthy because that is not considered structural. It makes it a hell lot easy and looks good.
yeah dude, neat shelf? How did you go with measuring it up? and what did you do about the side bits that bend down?,hows it bolted down. ive been eyein this project off for a while.. Ooo yeah and.. what thickness MDF did you use?
Never Look Back
Ohh i see, how'd ya cut it out, remove the shelf and go for it with a angle grinder or sumthing???????
cutting the metal is illegal.
so dont do it.
the only metal part you can cut is the two 6 inch pressed holes up in the corners.
thats where the factory speakers would go if your car came with them.
the holes look like they were cut, and then they tacked the pieces back in with a few spot welds.
so can you put 6" speakers in the back? will that sound crap with the 4" (?) speakers in the front of the car? how about if i put a small sub in the car? i dont want no doof doof though, and i dont listen to hilary duff or techno. i listen to music such as metallica, prom queen, HIM, and afi.
6" will be fine for the back. Thats what was originally intended for them. The holes already there
Sure, go ahead and get a 10" put in the boot.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
did this today into a VS berlina.. not sure if this is the same dash as the rest of the cars or not.. got the 6x9's in and they were in width ways not long ways like someone said.. took a lot of f'in about but its done.. now waitin for head unit to come and sould have it all done by late this week.. and then splits, sub and amp.. arhhhh

i had a custom shelf in my VN with a free air sub in it. it was like that when i got the car (2nd hand), i was cocerned about the legalities of it so i got RTA to check it as well as engineers.
even though the center restraint anchor point had been removed and there was a huge hole there it WAS still legal.
most of the tin on your parcell shelf is not structural.
if in doubt ring RTA and ask for help, they will give you a phone number of an engineer to talk to.

****....I wanna know which engineer did yours so I can kick his arse! If it isn't illegal I wanna know what happened! It's been illegal as long as I can remember. That "tin" is very important to the car...what do you think is stopping your rear window from shattering each time you go around a corner?
