Default Bass in a small package

I cracked the shits with my 2 12" rockfords taking up so much space in my boot the other day and pulled them out. I miss the bass already. The crappy rampage 6x9's driven straight off the head unit just don't cut it. I don't need huge bass though - I bought the rockfords because they were cheap and I never drove them very hard.
What I need is reasonable bass in small package. I want to future proof it as well, as I am planning on buying a vs ute shortly, and I don't want to do the whole 'sub in box under the tray where the long range tank would go' thing.
What I'm thinking is either one of these Under Seat Active 8" Subwoofer - Jaycar Electronics.
Or a decent set of 6x9's driven off an amp. My housemate has a set of average kenwood 6x9's running straight from the head unit that make good bass.
Then I could put the 6x9's in small boxes to go behind the seats in the ute.
Are 6x9's a better bet than the compact sub?
    Cheers

So have you heard it? I had a look at it when I was in wow the other day but they didn't have one hooked up. I'm hoping someone has an idea of whether the jaycar ones are alright, because they're much cheaper.

Go have a listen of one. I only know of the Aspley Jaycar, but the few times of been in there the blokes have been helpful and friendly enough. Ask if they have one in store and if they could hook it up to their audio wall, I'm sure they would.
