Its fine to run that size cable. Nothing will happen. If you under sized it then you would have problems.

Depends what Amp you are using, How much power it produces and how efficient it is...

You could have a 2000w Amp that runs a poor efficiency and using 200Amps, Therefore you would find the cable is too small...

I'm just playing with figure's, But there's no way I'm saying it's fine to use until i know what Amp(s) you are using

you are right but I doubt that his amp will be sucking 200amps mate.
If you are realy worried look at the specs on the amp sheet and see how much current it draws and get the right wire size.

I don't run my company by, "I doubt" or "Pretty sure", When your dealing with High Amperage on a Vehicle never under estimate the problems you can encounter...

The last thing you want is for the cable to draw too much and melt the outer sleaving, Touch the chassis somewhere and boom. I like to be certain... So giving that he has provided no other details, Don't assume it will be fine.

For most systems that cable would probably be fine, If i was to run my system on that i would probably get it glowing...

    Cheers

If he came to my work i would of checked the specs on the amp and then from there i would of made my wire size decision.
But we hardly get that kind of work anymore it all goes places like strathified/ryda/Installers. We get the real electrical work.

I wasn't having a go at you Sunshine, Simply being careful

Besides, 'Real' electrical work isn't found anywhere near cars...

Yeh that’s why we deal with PCM/Alternators/Startor motors/sensors. Which are all electrical products I believe. Any way was not having a shot at you just saying we don’t get those easy jobs anymore.

Woah... i'd be interested to see what amp he is running now..
Everyone knows that an amp power cable can melt, but how much amperage it would take to get it to melt would be interesting.. just for fun i ran 75amps off a 6metre 8awg power cable for 3 months. no issues.

Of the top of my head,

    Current handling for:

    0/1 Gauge - 320Amps
    4 Gauge - 150Amps
    8 Gauge - 60Amps

Remember your Amp is Barely running at full capacity, So you wouldn't constantly be pulling 75Amps through it. If it's a risk you a prepared to do, Go ahead. If your car catches on fire, Good luck claiming insurance...

    Thread is getting way OT.

[EDIT] Those statistics are for Stinger cable, And over a 6M run. (If i am remembering correctly)
