Hey guys. I recently bought a kenwood KAC-9405 Amp, Clarion 6x9 250w and Diamond 5.25" 80W . Since I've got the 6x9's is it a waste of money buying a sub/amp package as it will cancel it out or could I run the 6x9's from the SUB Pre-Outs and have them act as a sub and have the Diamonds for main sound?
The Amp's running all the speakers via RCA Input, and using the factory settings
cheers
I have 6x9's aswell but they only used to fill holes in shelf and the fact that the acoustic (mids/high's) sound is awesome. You don't need 6x9's speakers with a sub and yes it is pointless. LIke I have used my Clarions is to cut the low-pass to them and just run it for the mid/highs. Use your Diamonds just for full-range aswell, let the sub supply bass.
6x9's are essentially a full range sub's anyway, if that makes sense to you.
Seeing as your using relatively cheap gear anyway, if you want to add a sub and retain the 6x9's, then that is fine, no harm done. Simply run them on the same High Pass as your fronts, and they will act as any other 2, or 3 way coaxial speaker.
cheers for ya answers guys .
i'll hav a chat with Autobarn, since i bought it all from them and make a decsion
No need to chat to AutoBahn. The reply i gave you above is the answer to your question. Not saying Autobahn don't know what they are talking about, but there's always the possibility with chain stores like that, that you may be given the wrong infomation from an inexperienced staff member, and wind up making the wrong decision, worse yet, buying something you don't need. We've seen it on the forum many a time before.
6x9's have their purpose when used correctly. The correct application for a 6x9 speaker is to run them in full range mode (Full Pass) preferably amplified. 6x9 speakers are popular as they offer more bass than your typical split/coaxial speaker due to their larger cone surface area.
However when you add a subwoofer, the added bass response previously gained from using 6x9's will now be outweighed, by the sub, making them redundant. The mid and high of course will still be audible, but any fq under that set on the crossover point between the low and mid, you will not hear coming from the 6x9.

Why would reccomend he run a front 5.25 '' speaker in full range if he has a sub?
By running a HPF to your fronts/rears, you releive them of the duty of having to try and reproduce the entire fq spectrum on their own. Without the need to play low fq below a certain set point, they can be left to conentrate on the mid-high range fq's, and in turn play louder and handle more power.
