Gents,
I just have a few questions regarding speakers in a VY 2 Calais:
1. What are the size of the front and rear speakers?
2. What are the size of the subs in the rear parcel shelf?
3. What would be a suitable replacement for all these, retaining the factory head unit? (dont need specific brands - just type, size, etc)
4. Would building a box around the back of the subs (under the parcel shelf) increase their effectiveness or hinder it or do nothing at all?
Im sorry if this has been covered before, but it would be helpful if someone has this info.
Cheers.
Yep, covered before. Next time do a search before posting (just a tip)
Anyway:
1. 6", although most 6.5" models will fit with some small mods to the stock speaker pod.
2. They are 8" free air (or infinite baffle) subwoofers.
3. Suitable replacements for the fronts would be 6-6.5" component speakers. Suitable replacements for the rear speakers would be 6-6.5" co-axial speakers. I wouldnt recommend replacing the factory 8" subwoofers unless you plan on upgrading the stock amplifier too.
4. IMO building a box the enclose the stock subwoofers would probably hinder their performance as they are designed to be used they way they are mounted at the moment. If you were to go to the trouble of replacing the stock subwoofer amplifier then i would suggest replacing them with a single 10" / 12" boxed subwoofer in the boot. If space is an issue there is the option of a "pre-made" fibreglass enclosure that is designed to be mounted in the rear corner of the boot. This way you'll get a noticeable improvement in bass output wile still retaining 90% of the boot space. Here is the enclosure im talking about:
HOLDEN COMMODORE 12'' SUB SUBWOOFER BOX VY VZ LS1 GEN 3 - eBay Subwoofers, Audio, Video, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 04-May-10 11:40:33 AEST)
150db in a commodore =
Thanks for that.
Do I need to run new wires etc if I upgrade the amp?
