Default Ute Sub Box for 12" Alpine Type-R

Hey guys ive got a VY SS ute and im trying to fit a 12" alpine type-r sub.
Atm its in a alpine ported box fixed down in the tray, with the lockable hard cover it rattles like crap and the majourity of the sound doesn't reach the cabin.
I've concidered extending the port into the cabin but i am worried about cutting out a slot in the wall behind the drivers seat.
I've designed a ported box and sealed box that could fit in next to the fuel tank but not quite sure if either would fit.(would be a really really tight fit)
Also tried to design a box that would fit behind either the drivers or passengers seat but the sub needs such a large volume to run at optimum efficency that it wouldnt be practible.

Has anyone fitted a 12" alpine type-r sub into a ute and it works really well?
also any other ideas as a way to fit it?

    cheers in advanced

yeh ive looked at getting a box that goes behind the seat but im pretty sure there too shallow as the tyre r needs at least 195mm mounting depth and i think they're too small aswell

Does anyone have the measurements for the "behind the seat" ute sub box?
I need the measurements to make sure it will fit and perform at its best before I go and buy one.

    thanx

That won't work unless it's a bandpass box. With a ported box the sound from the cone and the port interact to give the tuning of a ported box, if you separate the port and cone you end up with messed up sound.

But see the picture below of a bandpass box, the cone and port are in the same area and all the sound vents from the port... Bandpass boxes are difficult to design to sound good though.

IMO there's not enough room to run a 12" that sounds good in a ute. period. 10" ported from the fuel tank is best bet. If putting a 12" in you will never get a box big enough that physically fits in for it to sound right (unless it's sitting on your passenger floor.)

12 inch type R sub will fit next to the fuel tank in a VS ute Ive done it so I don't know what your doing wrong and they fit even better in vu up to ve
you just have to make the box look kinda an L and the sub faces up, make sure you do the math for volume and displacement of air and expansion chambers etc if its a type r or you will just be wasting your time, I still have my sub box out of my vs with the type R sitting in it in the shed till I build a new box for my vz as the size next to the tank is bigger and the vents to the cab are different

And a 12 will sounds crisp in a ute if you put the time and effort in to do it the right way, and port it to the cab my 12 was in a sealed box its hard to explain but I had awesome clear base and that was at 4ohm

i had wanted a ported box, thats y it was such a shit to get in there, the exact size box down to the very last litre for tuned at i think 32hz was like an 8L port and 35L box excluding the size for the wood and the sub itself. and the space is so small that the sub has to be facing towards the front of the car. so please dont tell me it was easy

Im looking at putting a 10inch sub in my VZ ute but cant decide whether to put it behind the passenger or drivers seat? Im reluctant at putting behind the drivers seat as i dont want to get punched in the kidneys while i drive. However the jack and crap are behind the passenger seat leaving with little space. I know i could move the jack but i dont want to. I have seen enclosures that sit over the jack but this then reduces the size of the box. Has anyone had any experience with a 10inch from behind (hahaha) I threw that in for a laugh. No seriously do you get vibrated out of your seat if you install a 10inch behind the drivers seat? Thanks

The B Man: Hey i have an alpine type r 12inch sub in the long range compartment which is directly behind the passengers seat. even though it has a crazy amount of bass for a ute its still very livable. i honestly dont think u'd have to worry about too much bass with a 10inch sub.

    cheers

Thanks for the reply. I might just stick it behind the drivers side for now and see how it goes. I used to have a 12inch alpine in my VT (sedan) and had the bass turned right down as it was far too loud for my liking. Also my car would rattle like a bitch.
I thought about making a box but I did the maths and it will cost me more to build it than to buy one. Now im off to track down a reasonably priced 4 channel amp to run my Alpine splits in the front and the sub up my arse ;-)
