i have a 4 channel 600w pioneer amp powering 2 6-9"s 440w 4way, and two 6" pioneer splits in the front doors not to sure about wattage, maybe 220 i think from memory. amp is powered by 4 rca leads channel 1 and b, what determines the gain i should use for the speakers front and back? and what about the hpf, lpf, off switch what position should that be in?
also i have seen cars in magazines and some on here who have a board which amps are hidden behind in boot as my two amps are too big to bolt under parcel shelf. where do i source one of these bad boys?
Basically to set your gain, turn the headunit to a set level, just not the maximum, about 10 below is OK, put on a song with your normal listening type, just make sure it is a song that is pretty level throughout. Then go to amp and turn gain to minimum then raise it until the speakers you are setting produce distortion, then turn it back a little bit. Done. Just do 1 set of speakers at a time, just unplug RCAs for other set.
As for LPF and HPF, do you have a subwoofer. Both sets of speakers should be set to HPF and set it to about 90hz for the front speakers, and about the same for the 6x9s if you have a sub and about 50hz if you don't. Everyone has thier own opinion of the cutoffs so tailor to yourself. The HPF will basically only let frequencies above the setting through.
As for the amp mounting, talk to your local car audio installer.

ok cheers, yes i do have a sub. are you talking about adjusting the hz on the headunit for the speakers?
No do it on the amps, you can do it on both if you want, I did, but only because I was bored.

i only have the one amp powering all four speakers and a small amp powering the sub. there is no setting to change the hz on the amp though.
OK I was just having a look, I'm guessing you have the GM-6300F? Just set it to HPF, this automatically sets it to 80hz, that will be fine.
Oh and as for my earlier post, yes, only set it on the amp powering your speakers. Sorry I didn't read it properly.
The amp powering your sub should be set to LPF and set around the 80hz mark.
