Pioneer Class-D Mono Amplifier with 1,200W Max output GM-D8400M <---- this amp
to power
Alpine type R 12' duel voice coil 4 Ohm <---- this sub
does anyone here know if this will work and if it will work well. ive heard mixed comments, some saying this will work well but ive also heard it will be way to powerful.
If someone who knows abit about subs can have a quick look and give me an answer that would be awsome...cheers
Is it going into a sealed or ported box? Amp is 600wrms .. sub takes 500wrms .. so run it just off full gain and you will be fine
If the sub is going into a well build, properly sealed box the sub will handle a little more power. But either way, yep it will work.

It's a good match. Set the gains properly, don't set it near max. The gain setting will be different depending on the input voltage level.

Listen to StoneX's advice.
sweefu, you rarely every run the gains over 2/3rds, never at "just off full".

Yes, gain setting's aren't power or volume settings.
The idea is to match the amount of volume, from the amp, to your head unit. If you set your gains to full, or max, and your head unit has a volume control of say 0-40, then your amp may be working at it's full potential by say around volume 10-15. Raising the volume above that will only cause the amp to clip.(Amongst other issues)
So, yes Dardy, that amp will be fine. And no, it won't be too powerful. If you know how to correctly adjust your gain settings, then you can't ever have too much power anyway. Any extra power, is reffered to as "headroom" , and an amp running at less capacity will produce a cleaner signal anyway.
Yes, they are good to buy through, postage is well priced also. I have purchased online through them a few times time, without any drama's, i have also been into their store when i was in Sydney.
Allthgouh, what is your budget for the amp, their may be something more suitable available through another supplier.
well im looking for under 400, in bunbury there is a sony xplod amp that is 300 that ive been told will work well
