Hi guys, just about to buy a 6 stacker for my VY Executive and noticed there are two kinds of stackers.
What I want to know is the Tempest coloured one with the aerial buttons a "Premium" one with the "better" display like the Calais one? As a general rule, is this correct?
I know the aerial buttons will not work, but the aerial only goes up and down on my EXEC anyway, so no big deal. My Calais has the better LCD, and want the same for the EXEC.
Also, I have a small 2 channel amp, around 50w rms per channel, and want to use it to run a pair of 8" subs on the shelf, like the calais. It has line in and RCA in, and was thinking of just using the line in as subs shouldn't suffer from noise from outside sources like tweeters and the like will. Where would be the best place to get a line in input for the amp to run the subs? I don't want a big sub in box etc as I'm not chasing decibels, just a little more depth than the stock stereo, and the fact boot space is paramount.
Thanks for taking the time to read this guys.
Mark.
I cant comment on the head-unit part, but i can comment on the amp / sub part.
Youre right about using the speaker level (or high level) inputs on the amp to drive subwoofers, you shouldnt hear much, if any interference. Just make sure the remote turn on is taken from something like the hands free kit wiring so the amp is staying on / turning off before or after the stereo, as you may get some noise then (turn on / off thump mainly).
The best place to get your input would be from the rear speakers, just before they enter into the rear doors (in the B pillar). Remove the trim panel and access the wiring loom going into the door, heres the wires you should be looking for:
Rear Left (+) - Brown/Black
Rear Left (-) - Yellow/Blue
Rear Right (+) - Blue/Orange
Rear Right (-) - Blue/Black
Just tap into these wires and run them to the amp location.
What 8" subs are you looking at getting?
150db in a commodore =
Thanks heaps for your help mate. Very useful info.
Subs, well not sure I'lll find some not to bad free air ones I suppose, but just not sure if I should use the original holden spacers like in the calais, or just get a piece of thick MDF over the holes in parcel shelf, and cut holes in it to size, creating a stronger mount for the subs, hopefully a little less vibration. Either way is easy I suppose. Probably the mdf route might be better.
