Hi
I have a yokohama subwoofer just lying around i think it got given to us a while ago, its 12 inch, 1200wt. Is this a peice of shit better of in the bin?? or can i make it work, If so what spec amp do i need to power this sub say around $300 for the amp. I plan to do all the installation my self myself. Is there anything else i need to take into account to make it all work properly? Bascically just a stock commodore sound system so far with a JVC Headdeck and i plan to install the amp myself.
Thanks in advance
Hey mate,
We'll need to know the model number of your sub before we can give you any help, then go from there..
Cheers.

We will need the subs RMS specs to recommend an amp, but considering the sub I'd bet those don't even exist.
I'd bin it but its up to you.
Here is something for you to consider.
PIONEER GM-5400T 1/2 CHANNEL AMPLIFIER SUBWOOFER AMP - eBay Amplifiers, Audio, Video, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 31-May-10 21:03:55 AEST)
PIONEER TS-W308D4 12" SUBWOOFER 1400W MAX 4OHM CAR SUB - eBay Subwoofers, Audio, Video, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 31-May-10 21:07:44 AEST)
Tiny bit over $300 but probably heaps better.
Also you will need to factor in a amp wiring kit and some sort of enclosure for the sub, though enclosures are easy enough to build yourself.

Ohk here it is here YouTube - Yokohama 15 inch sub 1600w so think i will can that idea!!, and buy a sub as well. So that pioneer stuff you have recomended will i get reasonable sound from it? I just dont really have any idea of pricing/spec. With the amp would you run the car speakers through it? A box shouldnt be a problem i will just make one up if i cant find one, How big of job hours wise do you recon the installation will take? from what i understand i am going to have to run a lead from the battery through to the car with any other lines, im going to have to pull the front faceplate of so i can get to the headdeck etc so dont thing it will be a small job but yeaa
I think the Pioneer stuff is good quality for the price you pay. Obviously if you pay more you will get more.
That amp I posted is the bare minimum I would use to power that sub, but it will do the job. And it will only power the sub. Though if you want you can but a better subwoofer amplifier later and use this amp to power door speakers.
To install the amp you need to run power cable from battery to boot, an RCA cable from headunit to boot, and just screw it all together.
Also if you want that particular sub you will need to get the D2 version.

Ohk is it possible to get a better amp and use it to power both? would something like this be better? JVC 4 channel amplifier KS-AX3004 BRAND NEW! 680Watts - eBay Amplifiers, Audio, Video, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 17-Jun-10 18:30:35 AEST)
So is it the more wats in the amp the better? and the bigger the RMS on the sub the better?
