Hey everyone, just looking at the options here and asking for your opinion.
I have a Pioneer head unit that I have from my old car, it has ipod control and RCA.
I was thinking of modding the original head unit to add ipod control ( LINK is this the best way to go?) But I've heard that original head units does not give good sound quality. For example RCA which my Pioneer unit has. I'm not a very knowlegeable person with car audio I had it installed in my car professionally last time but I had RCA cables going from my amp to my head unit. Is there a way to get better sound quality from my speakers by having it going from my amp?
Another thing, if I was going to go with keeping the original unit (I have the 6 stacker from the VY), would you recommend I upgrade to the 6 stacker from the VZ that has the better screen?
Hope someone can help me out, cheers.![]()

get this and put in the pioneer.
ditch the 6 stacker (dont plug it in as you cant, and leave it in the car for resale value)
original units are crap.. i hated mine.. only good thing about my original was i had steering wheel controls... which have now been removed and replaced with a aftermarket unit on one side and cruise control on the other side.

Mate it really depends on how much you want to spend and what you're after. I have the low level RCA output modification done on my 6 stacker from ASR-Audio on this forum, I also have the iPod interface kit from UDC, both of which Phreddy can install for you. It's not cheap but I can tell you it's well worth it. I disagree with aaz, the original units aren't crap, the sound quality is just as good as an aftermarket unit and in my opinion will always look 10 times better than an aftermarket unit. Obviously you know that by keeping the original unit, you can retain full functionality of your steering wheel controls. Not only that you can also control your iPod through your steering wheel controls as if it were a CD. Coming from someone who has already done these mods I can completely recommend it to anyone, I don't think aaz knows the full potential of these units (I'm not having a go at you aaz).

another option is to buy a different aftermarket HU that is steering wheel remote ready (if your pioneer HU isnt) and buy a third party adaptor, which will allow you to use your factory installed steering wheel controls but if your looking to save cash this is probably not the best idea...but just thought id put it out there.
no its ok. i never really got a proper chance to play with one. mine kept skipping on cd.
i put in a double din kenwood unit at first. and it sounded much better then the factory unit (did not have any ad on's, also i have a vx) the kenwood unit put out plently more power then the factory, had more tuning features.
after you mod your factory unit, whats it like? if i kept the factory unit i would be looking at getting a rockford fostgate 3sixty.2...
cheapest option might be to ditch factory unit.. but i guess it looks alot better to keep it all stock and you get less attention from thieves.
just my 2c. everyone gets their 2c.
