Hi,
TRC.60C
Tarantula Amplifiers
TRC.6N
Ryda Car Audio - Soundstream TRC.6N Tarantula - 6.5" Component Speakers($398.85)
The 60C is the 2010 model, while the 6N's are discontinued.
Which would you pick? I'm guessing the 60C's because they newer version, specs are pretty much identical. I Just can't find any reviews about them.
Deck: Alpine 9887
Speakers: Hertz HSK165 XL
Amps: Audison SRx2, SRx4 & Alpine M350
Subs: 2x Alpine 10" Type S
dont mean to be a dick.. but i would go something else.. soundstream are not as good as they used to be.. they are no longer made in USA but now made in china.
for about the same price.. there are alot more other option.
even look on ebay for an oldschool reference amp.
Hi aaz,
I'm not sure why the link says Tarantula Amplifier - but I'm after speakers. I've owned the TRC.6N's in my VS Calais. I just haven't had a wide range of speakers so not sure how to judge on speakers apart from power output. Listening to speakers in a shop doesn't really help much either. I guess my budget is ~$500 for the speakers. Prefer SPL 70% over SQ 30% but don't want it to sound crap/distorted. It's difficult finding a speaker with more spl than sq but still sound good.

my bad... yeh.. soundstream speakers are pretty good (the high end stuff)
have a listen to focal and diamond with your budget.
if its for the mr2.. dont they hold 4" or 5" woofers?
Wouldn't got a clue what they originally have.
They've got Alpine DD Linears at the moment, but 1 is blown so in need of replacement.
Edit: Reason I got the SoundStream TRC.6N's previously was because they were in the In-Car Entertainmet 2009 Awards for highly recommended (Focal 165KR was Winner), and also cause they were rated 200wrms. I would have gone Focal but I wanted a loud system rather than sound quality - I was running Hifonic Olympus 2412 (2400wrms) for sub & changed the tweeters with SoundStream SST-05's.

Pretty sure they are just the replacement model, but not %100 on that.
In regards to comparing to Focal, Diamond ect, the SoundStream TR6N's are a VERY good set of components. They may not have the SQ associated with some other set's available at a similiar price, but as far as power handling capabilities, and overall volume levels, the TR's will win hands down every time.
A lot of people can't actually hear the sound quality difference when comparing different components, whether it be because they haven't been listening to music long enough, haven't heard enough to compare, or simply haven't been involved in an audio related hobby for long enough.
The TR's will play loud, and clear, and still maintain decent levels of SQ, which is what they are all about.I'd have no problem installing a set in my own car if i was in the market for a new set of fronts.
What HPF were you runnning them on previously, and how much power were they seeing? At 100 and above, i'd see no problems with giving them 300 rms, and above, either side.
I'm not sure, Alberts had installed and tuned them.
I had them running of a SoundStream Tarantula TRX2.820 (250 x 2 @ 4ohm). Like said I swapped the Tweeters with the SST-05's.
Like you mentioned, I haven't had that much experience with different speakers. I've heard Focal, Hertz, etc on a sound board but it's not the same.
I've never heard Diamond or Rainbow or any of those brands because no body sells them around here.
In Perth we have WestSide Audio (sells Focal, Hertz, Alpine), Alberts (sells Alpine, SoundStream, Rockford, MB Quart, Pioneer, DD, RE, think CDT (by order only).
SoundStream TRC60C quoted ~$500, should get better price cause I done workexperience and I know a lot of people at different Alberts branches.
Edit: I'm willing to buy online if there's a well known distributor that you have dealt with previously. I've brought the Hifonic sub & Pioneer deck (gf's) from Sonic Electronix (http://www.sonicelectronix.com - USD prices) in America so if there's anything there that's worth mentioning (around my $500AUD).
