well i was getting an amp for my 17th birthday next week to go with my sub i have. but i needed a new head unit as well so my parents have bailed on the plan. now i have to do it for myself.
this is what i have
Alpine type R (the duel 4 ohm version) - got it for $150 dollars of my mate
i also need a head unit (needs to be cheap) what u guys think of this, kenwood KDC-U446
i also need a amp that is kind of cheap, the cheapest i have found in town is a sony xplod amp for $299, but im trying to avoid sony if possible so i would like your opinions on amps of similar price that can power my sub
Have you got an enclosure for the sub yet? Wiring kit ect?
As far as cheap mono block amps go, cheapest going around at the moment would be the Clarion APX1301. I usually reccomend these via Ryda's website, RYDA.com.au - Great Prices on Car Audio, Mobile Phones, Digital Cameras and GPS Navigation however they aren't coming up anymore, so they may be sold out of them. But give them a call, the 1301 will produce 400rms @ 2ohm, which will be sufficient for your needs on a tight budget. Last list price was about the $170 mark.
Otherwise you should be able to pick up something 2nd hand pretty easy.
Another option, Joe, our forum audio sponsor, has recently started to stock Ground Zero products, with extremely cheap prices on their amplifier range. I'm not sure if he has a mono block from the GZ range, but may be worth asking. Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists
With the head unit, there are plenty of head units available at the price you mentioned. A dedicated sub-out would be a good idea when looking at different models, just to give you better tuning capabilities.
