    Default VH speaker install suggestions

    Hey all,

The time has come to do something about the speakers in my old SL 83 VH. I have the standard 2 speakers. one in the center of the dash and the other in the rear left of the parcel shelf. I'm not looking for a huge system because the vibrations will probably break something else. All I want to do is replace the standard speakers for a pair of respectable, adequate speakers. Recomendations?

Anyone know the size of the one in the dash?? Any one replaced it and have any tips?? I have a head unit picked out and have put a few in before so I don't anticipate that to be a problem there.

    Thanks for any help.

You don't see too many installs on the earlier model commodores due to lack of speaker mounting options.

Problem is you are going to have to sacrifice the originality of the interior, in order to get some decent sound happening.

My suggestion, would be to get some VR/VS door pods, and spend some time painting them to match the colour of your existing door trim. This will give you not only a suitable place to mount a 6-6.5 '' speaker, but also a map pocket.

I have seen it done of a few VH's before, and it turned out allright.

For the rear, a set of speaker spacer's would most likely be needed to mount either form of coaxial, 6x9 ect to gain suitable clearance on the parcel shelf.

Attached is a picture of where someone has performed the above installation using the VR/VS door pods. As you can see, your always going to be able to tell that the original door trim has been modified, so i guess it comes down to if your willing to go that far...

You could pick up the pods, and the nessacary mounting gear from a wreckers for about 50 bucks. Maybe a bit less depending on where you go to.

That 2 tone trim doesnt hide too much..I did it to my vh sl with single colour trim and no big armrest and it was blue....it doesnt look like a add on as much with fewer things hanging off the trim...mounting the speakers took a couple of aftermarket angled spacers as the vr mounts dont fit but it worked out well and no comparison to the single one on the dash.
This is my vr that I rebuilt ....CLICK HERE to see my vr on Cardomain ......if you want to check it out......Anyway make sure you rubbish a ford daily ....I am a 4DH8RZ Club lifetime member .................new members joining everyday
