Default SoundStream TRC6N - Which Amp?

    Hi,
I'm going with a set of TRC6N's again for my MR2. Just wondering which amp you'd recommend to run them?

    Alberts recommended the SoundStream Stealth 4.500 (250wrms x 2 @4ohm bridged) for $550.

    Anyone recommend anything else?

    Theres the SS Lil Wonder LW4.620 (310wrms x 2 @4ohm Bridged) for $380.

I'm willing to spend the $550 if it's going to be sufficient to run the TRC's and also with quality. I'd probably be looking at around that price range aswell. I've been quoted ~$400 for the TRC6N's.

Theres the Rockford T600.4 (300wrms x 2 @4ohm bridged) not sure on price but more than $550
or the Alpine PDX4.150 (300wrms x 2 @4ohm bridged) probably more than the Rockford.

I'd be more inclined to find a high powered 2 channel amp, rather than bridging a 4ch which reduces the damping factor i believe.

    Staying with SoundStream:
    Ryda Car Audio - Soundstream TRA1000.2 Tarantula - 2 Ch Amplifier($548.85)

Mate i'd stay away from this Alberts mob based on their other previous reccomendations so far !!

I'd go with an OPtion Audio A0160 Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists - Option Audio OAC160

That's 100 rms more either side than what the Sound Stream amp will be putting out, and it cost significantly less.

Not sure about the dampening factor as mentioned by Holden Boy, something i would like to learn a little about if it is the case though, as i've always preffered using a 4 channel bridged as aposed to a larger 2 channel amp.

Good old Holdenboy. From what people have been telling me, a lot of the 2ch v 4ch is based on preference. Although the distortion is higher than a 2ch but is unnoticable to the human ear. Re. Dampening Factor I have no clue

Edit: You got anything else up your sleeve? Other than SoundStream for that kind of money. I was going 4ch because of moneywise, generally 4ch amps are cheaper than 2ch with 250-300wrms output. You recon there anything with 300wrms?

Link isnt working for me HCVP, EDIT - working now.

I think its got something to do with the amp running at 4 ohms. When its bridged each channel "sees" 2 ohms and the damping factor reduces (thats my understanding anyway).

Ive always ran my fronts off a bridged 4 channel, but just recently i went active off the same amp and i could instantly tell the difference. I dont think it makes a huge difference to subs, but i always wondered why the "SQ boys" (no offence guys) ran their speakers / subs @ 4 ohm.

    EDIT: Im not that old

Thx HCVP, you mentioned that somewhere before.
Rem from ShoppingSecure is organising a demo of the AD6's in car. So if I go with the OA he can hook me up.

Haha. Meant no offence. Just you, Joe and StoneX are like the audio professionals here (sorry if I missed others).

I'll be going Active aswell. SoundStream SST-05's (Alberts gave me a new pair for free, so I might aswell use them - 50wrms) So I'll get a 2ch x 75wrms or something for that.

Have you had experience with the TRA1000.2? or you just going by specs?

    No offence taken

Nah i havent had experience with that amp, but it was just an example. I think the main reason most of us go with bridged 4 channels is to get the power we want, as theres not many 200wrms+/ch 2ch amps available.

    I want the Boston GT2300 to run the TRC6N's but it's too expensive - $1068 + Shipping
    &
    I wanted the Boston GT275 $420 + Shipping to run the SST-05's

But it's too much to spend on an amp I think.

Edit: I was hoping for 300wrms per channel for the TRC's and 75wrms per channel for the SST-05s. So both amps are 1.5x rated RMS of the speakers for headroom.

Maybe a Focal Solid 2 (2x 75) for the SST-05's? Focal is known for the quality right?

    or

Audion SRx2 (2x 80) - gotta check out some prices for these.

If you like the way the AD6's sounded paired with the OA amp, why don't you get them, and buy the spare W6 drivers i have, and then you'll really have a good front stage

Haha. Ye martial arts. Done for 2yrs - Freestyle (bit of everything, mainly Boxing & Muay Thai tho) was Green belt and MMA. Now doing BJJ, KickBoxing & MMA at Gracie Barra - 3hrs per night - 1hr each class - monday to thursday. That's actually a lie - 1hr each Mon & Thurs. 3hr BJJ on Tues & Thurs

Apparently the guy with the AD6's used to run Focal k2p 3ways, alpine X's etc. Recons the AD's & Steg amp is better. Recons "much better. Easier to install. tweeters are nice and clear and don't hurt your ears".

Incar did a review a while back with AD 600's and a Steg amp, and had nothing but good things to say about them. I've never seen, or heard a Steg amp. Came close to getting one last year, but plans fell through. But from everything i hear, they are a very good make of amps.

Ye I read the review on the AD6's featured in Incar. Marty from FHRX over east done the review for it.

According to the latest InCar 2010 awards under $1000 - Alpine X's got First, Crescendo 8.6 got Highly Recommended.

If anything I'd go the AD60. Only thing that concerns me is the 150wrms & 88dB Sensitivity compared to the 200wrms & 91dB on the TRC's. I know this is probably insignificant but recon I could hear the music loud & clear with windows down & targas off driving down the freeway? WOW... I just realised that my gf has Alpine Type R's in her car which are probably running at 150wrms at the moment.

    Just rang Westside Audio
    Focal Solid 2 for $375 (75x2)
    Audison SRx2 for $450 (80x2)
    Hertz EP2 for $350 (60x2)

    Ryda
    Boston GT275 $437 (75x2)

These would be to run the SST-05's

Edit: I've got a Alpine MRV F250 amp running my Alpine DD Linears..... why is it that when I search F250 I find a 4channel? Isn't the 250 meant to mean 2x 50? I swear it's a 2channel. I mite just use that amp to run the SST's for the time being, get everything else like dynamat sorted and then buy new amp for the Tweeters.

IU was talking about the 600's, not the 6's. They reviewed the 600's a few months later.
