Hi,
I'm buying some new splits. But I'll be using my new SST-05 tweeters. Should I just disregard the Tweeters from my splits or should I have them both connected? (Woofer/Tweeter of 1amp and Tweeter of another amp)
I'm running active if that makes a difference.
Edit: If you need to know it's SoundStream TRC6N and SoundStream SST-05.
Deck: Alpine 9887
Speakers: Hertz HSK165 XL
Amps: Audison SRx2, SRx4 & Alpine M350
Subs: 2x Alpine 10" Type S
Just replace them unless you want to go to the effort of using the original ones as ambient tweeters.
This is probably how I would have it set out if I kept both tweeters.
(I've already got the SST-05's brought from my last install, just got them swapped over under Warranty so they brand new, So I'd like to use them).
Woofer in standard door (Blue)
SST-05 in Air Vents (Green) (They are huge so tink that's the only place to put them)
Tweeter in standard Tweeter spot (Pink) (If it fits there ... if not mount on dash).

Ok.
Since I don't know much about going Active.
I think I need a seperate Crossover? I can't use the one that comes with the splits right?
How much are crossovers? and where can I get one?
Edit: Just checking Ebay atm, Crossovers aren't that expensive... well depending on what I go with. How are the SoundStream MPQ-7XO? I've seen a few Audio Control ones? Are these any good?

No point having two sets of tweeters like you have them in that picture. The only time 2 sets is useful is if using one set as ambient tweeters (this means lower volume than main tweeters to pull the sound stage up). This would mean your good tweeters are mounted low and then the cheap quieter ones are mounted high. If you're not doing this, only use one set.
What crossover frequency is the standard crossover designed at? What is the recommended crossover frequency of the new tweeters? If they match and both sets of tweeters are the same impedance, then you can use them with the standard crossovers. If not, you need to have custom crossovers designed for it to sound right.
Crossover for TRC6N:
2 Way Passive Network
12dB per Octave Tweeter Output
12dB Low-Pass for Midbass
2 Different Attenuation Points for Tweeter
Built in DC/Clip Protection for Tweeter
Selectable 2.5Khz or 2.8Khz Crossover for Woofer
That's all I know about the Crossover. But this is a passive crossover. So I cant use it for an Active system?
Don't you hook Deck to Crossover/EQ to amps to speakers?

Active means your woofers and tweeters are connected directly to the amplifiers, no crossover in between. Then you use an EQ or high pass and low pass filters in the amps to choose which frequencies go to which speaker and you can individually adjust the level of each speaker.
Passive means your woofers and tweeters are connected to the supplied crossover which then is connected to the amplifier. The crossover splits the sound at a set frequency to the woofer and tweeter. The crossover absorbs a bit of power too.
Ok I've got all that.
Is this possible?
Alpine 9887 - Set Filters on deck - run RCAs to each amp - Set Filters on amps - Have crossover for tweeter from Amp to Tweeter - Have Straight run for woofer? Isn't this the same as having a Crossover before the amps?
Why would it be better to have a Crossover before the Amps? Is a external crossover better than using the Deck Filters or Amp filters?

I think you're getting confused between active and passive crossovers... Active crossovers are used on RCA level sound (before amps). Passive crossovers are used in already amplified sound (after amps).
I'm not sure what settings your head unit and amplifiers have. Generally, if you're going active you have a head unit, external equaliser or amplifiers capable of high passing the tweeters somewhere between 2kHz and 5kHz (depending on what the tweeters prefer) and being able to BAND PASS the woofers so that they only play down from the 2kHz-5kHz you set for the tweeters and above the subwoofer frequency of 60-100Hz.
So for example:
Tweeters plav 2.5kHz -> infinity
Woofers play 80Hz -> 2.5kHz
Subwoofers play 0 -> 80Hz
If going active, you need equipment that can create these bands of frequencies.
Honestly, for someone not competing in sound quality events you don't need to go active until you completely understand what you're doing or are unhappy with a passive system. Companies put a fair bit of research into matching the woofer and tweeter and designing a crossover for them in a set of splits... Changing components from a set of splits is going to make things sound worse unless you really know what you're doing and have equipment capable of tuning it.
I've understood the Passive and Active crossovers now.
The Lil Wonder 4.620 (310rms x 2 @ 4ohm) (to run the TRC6N Woofers), has HP/LP/Full filters. Signal/Noise Ratio - >92dB, Frequency Response 1.0dB - 10Hz-30Khz, HPF - 15Hz-222Hz / 225Hz - 3.8Khz, LPF - 50Hz-800Hz / 250Hz - 4Khz.
SoundStream TRC6N: 200wrms, Frequency Response 40Hz-20Khz, Crossover Slop: 18dB, High Pass: 3.5k
SoundStream SST-05: 50wrms, Gold Plated Trim, Titanium Diaphragm, 1K - 20 KHz Freq. Response, 109dB Sensitivity
Alpine 9887: 24-bit Burr-Brown digital-to-analog converter, Digital signal processor includes a 7-band equalizer (switchable to 5-band parametric mode), 6-channel digital time alignment, and high- and low-pass filters, Alpine's Imprint MultiEQ sound tuning technology (requires an external tuning module).

The only reason I'm going Active is so I can use my Tweeters that I had brought last year. Otherwise they are going to waste. Unless I can run them using the passive crossover from the TRC6N properly. So I really want to use the SST-05's. Atleast if I go active now, I got it set up for future purposes.

I run 2 sets tweets passive off a seperate 2 chanell amp
1 set in original dash position set -3db
1 set in door sill position set 0db
both sets run their own seperate crossovers
