    Default new front splits

    Hey guys n gals
I searched the forum to try n suss out how to install new 6.5" splits in my calais and everything basically went on about trimming the pods so they will fit.

In other words i got no clue what this is on about as ive n ever done a stereo install before. I know the stock speakers are 6" and i know my new splits are deeper than stock, so my question is what exactly do i have to do to get these bad boys in?

    cheers

Maybe tell us what splits your thinking about getting.
For instance DD Linears are very shallow. I previously had a VS Calais and had older 6.5" Alpine Type R which were very deep but I used the factory pod and just cut it a bit and used glue and screws. I'm sure I didn't modify my pods much from memory. Just shaved the back of the grill from door trim because the woofer kept hitting it and it still looked stock from the other side.
    Deck: Alpine 9887
    Speakers: Hertz HSK165 XL
    Amps: Audison SRx2, SRx4 & Alpine M350
    Subs: 2x Alpine 10" Type S

Some brands will fit without modding, some will.

As Deutscher said, we'll need to know what splits youre planning in fitting.

Easy dude I have exactly the same splits. Use the plastic spacers supplied with the splits. You will need to cut the tabs off them. You will have to cut the back of the plastic pod off to allow for the speaker to fit through simply because the Type R's are deeper than the original speakers. I don't have pics on me now but I do at home so if you want I can post pictures from when I did it.

6.5" splits fitted in my calais doors without too much hassle, some brands are different though.
