Hey all
Im making a Wheely bin into a boom box.
It will consist of:
-160L Wheely bin
-Sony head unit
-4x 6x9" speakers
-a massive ****er of a battery
-1x 12" subwoofer (99% chance of it being a Fusion EN-SW12HD)
-2x Pioneer GM-3300T amps
-about 8km of wire
-a few switches
My main idea is to have the amps mounted on the wheel side, the battery inside it, the HU on the lid, 2 speakers on each side and the sub on the front of it
Ill be having a switch to turn the amp for the sub on and off, and in the second drawing my proposition is to have a power kill switch for the speaker sub (one channel for 2 speakers) and a switch to direct the speaker cables to either the amp, or straight to the speaker, using the HU's amp instead of the GM-3300T
Here is the full wiring diagram, which will be probably changed on the way:
and here is the speaker amp by-pass idea:
All idea's/suggestions/questions or confusions are much appreciated as this isnt the final idea and will most probably be changed, so let me know what you all think, if it will work, any way to do it easier or ways youve seen it done
Let them come
Thanks

Edited my post, i as i wrongfully assumed that the 3300 T would not run at 2 ohm, turns out it does.

Multi-channel amps can run at 2 ohm per channel, two 6x9's in parallel per channel is fine. It's the same as bridging the amp to 1 channel at 4 ohm.
I wasn't sure that the 3300T would be ok at lower impedance. I dug up the owners manaul and indeed it turns out that it will run a 2ohm across both channels at 75 x 2. So i stand corrected. Now im going back to bed !!
only thing i would change in your setup would be that switch you have on the first amp..
put the switch on the remote. (blue wire on the back of your headunit)
then you will need switches to change the wires from amp --> headunit
This thread has made me want to do this too... I've got no way of transporting a wheelie bin though and I bet the thing would get stolen as soon as I got blind drunk![]()
sounds like a mad idea. i recon just brace the front from the inside and have everything opposite to the amps.
unless your looking for surround sound.
sub on the bottom four speakers in the middle and headunit on the top of the same side. the the amps on the same side you suggested

I do all my drawings/plans in paint too haha
Damnit now i wanna steal my neighbours bins and put all my left over audio equipments in them. You know you could design an enclosure, that sits in the bin, that way it would sound quite decent, as aposed to just using the bin istelf.
Paint is easier
Yeah, well i found out my local bunnings is closed till september.. LOL, so off to penrith to get one instead.
How do you mean? Like a sub box and that, it would be too hard to access the battery when i go to change it...
Just run some cabling out the rear of the bin from the battery for when you want to charge it. I meant turning the whole thing into an enclosure, Serperate chembers for the fulll range drivers, and a ported enlcosure for the sub. Would be a shitload of work though.
I'd prefer to keep it in the bin and in a sealed box.
Yeah, would be alot of work but would be good, hmm, IDK, how hard?
Ill be having a charger perminantly on it and having the charger bit under the amps.
How will i be able to attach like 100,000 things to the one terminal? Is there like an accessory 'power board' i could get for it?
Just use ring terminlas with a wing nut on top.
So like on a car, one thing and then like 100 ring terminals.. OK
hmm, do i use my cadence 6" msplits or a second set of 6x9's?
Or you could use a terminal block, just depends on how many things you connecting.
I said on top of the box, not on top of the bin. Make the bottom (1/4 - 1/3 or so) of the bin into a box for the sub, then battery on the box in a cradle. Then you don't have to reach to the bottom of the bin to get to the battery either.
100 ring terminals? 2 amps and a head unit... That's 3 cables per post or is there more?
Shouldn't the battery be well ventialted if your constantly charging it?
That should be easier, ill decide when im buying the cables and that
the sub will be in the middle of one side of the bin, the battery wont need to be changed or removed unless it shits itself as it will have a charger on the outside
umm, there is one of those 3 12v ciggy lighter sockets with a USB charger off ebay, 2 amps, HU, charger cable, thats it for now.
good idea, how about in my battery box, with a hose to the side of the bin, hole cut in the side with mesh on it.
Itll have a charger attached to it perminantly, with the charger bit on the outside under the amps with the cables running inside it, all the cables leading to the outside will be as short as possible and the hole they went through siliconed up.
It is a really random idea but i have all this gear and nothing to do with it so i might as well do this, and since im a venturer (scout, but the next level up for 15-18yo) itll be going on camps, beats the logitec speakers we usually take
Now, on another point, i had an idea, which one of these will be best, sound wise?
EDIT:
I updated the wiring diagram

Diagram 1, 2, and 3 does not matter. It won't make a difference how much wire you use.
