Hi guys,
I'm still building my active system for my car.
Just wondering if anyone could recommend a good test cd? I don't mean a Frequency (Hz) test tone or a Sweep or a bass tester. I mean actual music. Something you can drive around with without sounding like a weirdo i.e opera (not saying opera is for weirdo's, it's just something that can be played at home). Just wont something that can make you go "wow that sounds really good".
I've got - Chesky Records - The Ultimate Demonstration Disc. But... well it's not something I'd like to listen to on the way to work.
Is there anything that has really crystal clear vocals/instruments? Is this possible or am I wishing too much? Just something that can really show of how well your speakers can sound like the real deal you know.
Edit: Just searching the net for audio test cd's. Just to mention I don't want anything like Bink's test cd or anything like that (Hz, Sweeps, White noise, Pink noise etc.)
Deck: Alpine 9887
Speakers: Hertz HSK165 XL
Amps: Audison SRx2, SRx4 & Alpine M350
Subs: 2x Alpine 10" Type S
Alpine - First Encounter available on the alpine store
anything from Chesky or Sheffield Labs
or actual music CDs
Herbie Hancock - Possibilities
Pink Flloyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Eagles - Hotel California
Rage against the machine - self titled (not great but pretty good)
can go on.....
Don't really have one, my favourite at the moment is Pink Flloyd, I just find it to be a really interesting album.
Alpine First Encounter is the official test disc for judging in MEASQ, some quite good tracks on it too
On the Chesky website you can download some samples, I'll check some of those out if I find something good I'll search for the CD.
The Alpine First Encounter CD by the track list looks alright, just wish they didn't have the Pink noise etc on there. Don't want to be listening to a CD and next moment Pink noise comes playing through my gear.

I've got Bass Mekanik Reloaded CD, which is good for Bass.. but at the end of CD2, you've got all the Hz tones which suck.

Phil Collins - in the air tonight is a good one.
Chris Issac - Wicked Game....
Your better off trying to find some more modern, easily accsesible stuff.
I'll throw one reccomendation out there - Deep Forest - "white whisper", has an incredibly wide soundstage, with some constant left to right shifting, huge depth on some of the vocals and some quick and tight bass notes here and there just to let you know your subs are still there.
If you haven't heard it before, listen to it all the way through, don't write it off early on is all i can say.
Some songs are just better recorded than others. Sometimes this can apply to a whole album, other times only a handful of songs.
But your main problem is finding original recordings in decent condition with regards to older music.
For eg, Pink Floyd, Eagles, Phil Collins ect, there's no point in buying any current release version of any of the past albums. (unless your a die hard fan)

Apparently one of the Michael Jackson CD's is REALLY well recorded, I don't remember which one though as I don't listen to it![]()
