hey guys,
i am looking at upgrading the speakers in my VY Ute. what is the power output on the head unit so i can get the right speakers to fit?.
cheers
Unless you are going to either upgrade the unit or get phreddy's mod in there for RCA (then amp) there wouldn't be much point as the factory headunit is weak and I mean really weak. I do suggest you use the search button as this question has been answered excessively.
Cheers,
Dave
hey, thanks for your help. im on the right track now, cheers
Without knowing the exact power output of each channel, if you consider that most aftermarket head units have a built in amplifier which produces in the vicinity of 12-15 watts rms per channel, then it's safe to say it could be equal, but most likely less.
Most aftermarket speakers have a higher sensitivity rating. Meaning they require less power, to achieve the same volume. So with just about any decent set of aftermartket speakers, you could expect a slight incease in volume, but would expect much of the same sound quality.
There comes a point where you have to spend a lot more, for a worth while gain. What that means is, unless your willing to add an external amplifier, to get the most out of your chosen set of speakers, then in most cases you are better of to leave them as is, or spend as little as very little as you need to.
