How to Install a Kill Switch on Car Stereo Amplifiers | eHow.com
Its easy, just put a switch on the sub amps REM cable. That way when you flick the switch off the amp shuts down.

yeah but what kind of switch?? and rem cable?? which colour?? cheers
The REM cable is the small one generally between the power and ground cables. Just head down to Tandy/Dick Smith/Jaycar/etc and say you need a small on/off switch for 12VDC, a few amp one will be plenty.

i got OFC power cable & an RCA lead & another OFC power cable with black plastic and a thin blue cable for the ground. still dont have REM lol and thanks
The thin blue cable is probably it. Cables into amp are, RCAs and speaker cable on one side (usually), and then you have power and ground cables are the same size, and a thin cable that is your REM.
Just get something like this SPST 20A 12VDC Toggle (on - off) Switch - Jaycar Electronics and hook it inline to the REM cable.
If your still unsure about which is the REM cable, post up the amp model and I'll find a picture.

ill check the site out.
i think i get ya but my amp is audioline ALN2400 and i got the leads from autObarn as what they recommended =)
Yeah you could use just about any 12V switch, cut the rem wire hook one end up to one side of the switch hook the other end of the rem wire to the other end of the switch
Can't you just turn the sub down so it's nearly off or don't your gain settings allow that?
bring it to autobarn and tell them to wire in a kill switch for the amp.. would cost about $30 though.
check ya head deck, mine has a option to turn the sub off
whats the difference between my missus and my blower??
well they both whine but the blower actually puts out
post a pic up of your amp wiring so we can tell you which wire to cut. then just put a switch in from supercheap or autobahn $5 or $10.
2nd that, and suprised it wasn't mentioned earlier. Assuming because your running sub/amp ect, that you would have an aftermarket head unit, most h/u's do offer a sub on/off feature. So if you haven't allready checked, have a look before you go buying things and messing around with your wiring.
but im thinking wouldn't turning the whole sub off and on stop all the other speakers aswell?.. are they all hooked up through the amp or are the speakers like running from the headunit? .. Coz i would assume you would still want some noise coming from the speakers

it depends if hes running hes sub output through the sub rcas if he has any could be rear
pull your headdeck out get the remotewire (remote wire is not 12v its a switch wire to turn the amp on/off)
put a lil switch on the top of the plastic compartment beneath the headdeck wella
Like 3 people have said in this thread, your headunit should be able to Switch of the Subs, "SHOULD" be able to!
Reppin' Alloytech 190/5 Speed Automatics.=
If your using a stock HU. There is no On/Off switch for the sub. Even if there is. If you amp just powers your sub. Run a Rem/Trigger wire to under the dash, go to Repco/Jacycar and get a toggle switch ($5), and connect the wire to the switch, one end going to the amp, other end to your HU.
I did this with me VY Berlina..

I think he'll get the point guys... No need to tell him the same thing over and over when he's not even replying![]()
Why dont you install a remote bass boost.
I got one in my car and when you turn it right down you get no bass
this thread is so comical. to start off with its an easy thing to do. Secondly all you audio freaks make it sound so much more complicated than it has to be.
I have a switch for subby. cost me 2 bucks. got audio guys at JB HiFi to fit it for free. its just a circuit breaker. got one for my GPS too, so i can have the power going to it when I am using it and no power when I am not using it (to decrease resistance). As for HU settings, they do exist but I would think that a big obvious switch is easier than MENU>SUB>ETC...!
