Hey. I have a 96 vs 6cyl.
i have a soundstream 720 amp
2x 12" schneider subs 4 guage ground 4 guage power
with a 200amp fuze (i know its a bit big)
I have double looped the 4 guage to fit in a 2\0guage holder
running to the rear to the amp.
when i run the stereo on high bass it just cuts out(the whole deck)
then it turns back on.
my cars lights dimm
and since then i have now purchased a farrad cap
and that helped but still have the problem
i then bought a redtop optima
and that works heaps better but still clips with the 2 subs running it runs alot better with 1 sub
but will still clip when it gets different sounds.
the amp has 3x 35a fuses and my alternator is rated for 100a
but ive been told mixed things like that should runn it fine etc.i have just made a better ground as i was told that could be th
problem but still not alot of difference.
when hitting hard bass the capacitor reads a drop from around 14v to 11.8-12ish thats at a pretty decent bass level. usually its climbs straight back up. but other times when it gets that low the deck just cuts out.
im thinking of getting a new 150amp alternator but have been told i should be able to run with the one i have. also thinking of going dual battery.
any help would be good.

Sounds like your deck is sensitive to voltage drops. But those are some big voltage drops for a relatively middle to small size system. What H/U are you running and what gain setting are you using? Also is this the model amp you are using, Soundstream XTA720.4? And what model subs are they?

Start by making sure the amp earths are sanded back and well connected.
I'm not sure what you mean by double looping the 4g wire, but it you have done something dodgy, then thats likely to be the problem.
If you still have issues, upgrade the wires from the battery to earth, engine block to earth, and alternator to battery to at least 4g wire.
And take the cap out of the system at least until you have the issue sorted. If you leave it in there it can mask the symptoms. If you still want it you can put it back in once the problems are sorted

It happend with my last deck aswell. and i had a different sub and amp.
same thing happend.
ok
i just poped a sub from its box an realised it is internally bridged i thought its wasnt
models
- jensen VM9213
-PCA2.760
-Schneider SPL12DV 4ohm 500w dual vc
i am running the subs into the amp
both + wires from each sub going to one channel and both - Going to one channel on the amp.
but after realising the woofers are internally bridged i may change that.. I think bridged is the word lolz

Phill the local boys at my audio shop said because i have a o guage fuse and only 4 guage wire
to loop over the wire to make it fit the 0 guage holder.
and the ground is good. used washers and a pretty much bare metal area.

Check the voltages at the back of the head-unit, most units will go down to 11.0v atleast before shutting down.
Does the amp go into protect?
Also, when you say "run the stereo on high bass" do you mean turn the volume up or the bass / LOUD settings?

amp goes into protect. and deck resets. um lets say ive got bb set on about 10 and deck bb 0 now if i turn my volume to max on some songs it will turn off. songs that have distorted bass, like its hard to explain. so atm i have turned my bb up and have removed one sub. runs heaps better but on some songs it turns off.

im not quite sure what settings my amp should be on,, so that would also be great help.. ie lpf what not
VS Berlina 1995 3800V6 W.A
ALL Bass Boost settings should be set to 0. My thinking is the amp is clipping (distorting) and drawing just abit too much current, still.....even at 11.5v the head-unit should stay on?
150db in a commodore =
well i would have thought it should stay on. my old deck used to just have the subs cut out.. wich sometimes happens.. are you one of those people that dont like bb :P
VS Berlina 1995 3800V6 W.A
Nah its not that i dont like BB, its just fact that it causes distortion (clipping) when set on, i think i did a test when i had the SPL setup in the wagon and with a Pioneer head-unit i couldnt have ANY bass settings on or it caused distortion at any volume level over 1/2 way (on test tones). This was checked with an oscilloscope.
Trust me, it'll be louder without BB and properly set gains![]()

Bass boost (and any other eq boosts imo) should never be used.
Think of it like zooming in on a digital picture. Sure you can make the picture bigger by zooming in, but it will just end up all pixellated and not good for anything.
You are sending a "distorted" signal to your subs, which will kill them very quickly.
Why would you have thought it should stay on?

holdenboy.. what should my amp voltage be and the lpf etc hz setting on my deck.
i want good bass for rap etc i want my car to rattle..
ive never been told what good settings are so have just messed with the settings and atm im not sure if its my settings or something else.
VS Berlina 1995 3800V6 W.A
oh and holden boy.. on a few particular songs there are beats that come in wich are distorted bass.. like thats what there ment to sound like. but thats when my sub cuts..
VS Berlina 1995 3800V6 W.A
lol i understand that. but i cant seem to get any decent bass when i dont have it on. and my mate has the same subs and his go hard. though my amp is better so should go at least to his level.. ive got a feeling im not doing something right with the voltage on the amp. not realy sure what it should be on..

Best bet would be to look up how to set up your amp properly... It's ok, I'll Google that for you.
